OMG!! I've been eating less than 1200 calories/day for the last week, typically less than 1000, but I'm gaining weight. What the hell is happening?!? I'm making healthy choices, I'm drinking plenty. I'm so upset. I don't know what to do. What's wrong with me? This sucks!

There's a theory out there that claims that if you don't eat enough calories, your body thinks it's starving to death and will valiantly store away as many calories as possible to save you from death... I know that some people call BS on this theory, BUT... if it's true, it might explain what's going on (maybe)... Hopefully someone more knowledgeable than me will comment...

You're very welcome - I figure providing support and kindness is why most of us are here. :) I know I'm not you, and my goals are probably way different (I'm mostly working on my blood chemistry, specifically my cholesterol levels), but I thought I should eat and exercise as I would if I were at my "ideal" weight and that should result in a slow, steady decline in that direction. Of course, I'm not an expert, and I have no idea if it works that way or not... so that's all I'm going to say about that. :) Are there any nutritional experts who would care to chime in here?

1200 should be the minimum you are consuming, consider bumping up your intake to a safer level, I know that it has helped me.

Under 1000/cals/day, you're just starving unless you weigh over 400 or so.

Daily weights fluctuate like mad, there are more factors than just fat that goes into a weight. Water, bone, muscle, fat and food/poop all contribute to the number the scale reads. Look for an overall trend otherwise you'll go crazy. It will take a week or two for a trend to become apparent. You should bump the calorie intake if you plan to maintain that intake for an extended period.

Just from my own experience...I was eating between 1300 & 1400 a day, then stalled. I started eating about 1500 a day, and the scale is slowly moving down again.

I’m not a professional, but I live to encourage. Just stay strong and love yourself. Results don’t come right away but they will come!!! I think you are absolutely beautiful just the way you are! But I completely understand wanting to lose weight. So, if results continue to elude you, then by all means you should go see a professional so that you can get help and be on your way to the body of your dreams. Best of luck!

How is the 1000 calories divided up among your macros? In other words, how many calories from fat, carbs, and protein for say 1000 calories?

Your calories are way too low even when eating healthy. I’m in the same situation. You can get the appropriate number off the internet. It calculates according to age, weight exercise etc. I thought I could just drop calories and exercise. Nope 👎 I’ve been trying for 4 months and finally understand you have to eat to lose Good luck 😉
