A concept I don't particularly embrace. Cheat day, is another term for it, but I'm not really cheating since I'm not actively trying to lose weight.

Great job there, Phil! Wow, 800 calories would make me cry like a baby. You are an amazing example for the community. Uh oh, just heard problems with avocadoes in Mexico are raising prices. Have a good one, buddy!

@queenofengels A refeed is replenishing of glycogen stores through high carbohydrates, and normalization of certain horomones that adapt to the dieting process specifically leptin, serotonin, test, and cortisol . Useful for people who train anaerobically with high intensity. Its a way to 'put gas in the tank' for workouts and not run on fumes. Fat gains during refeeds are generally minimal to nil because lipogenesis doesn't normally start occurring till muscle glycogen stores are full, which is very rare in a deficit. Until then the muscle tissue is more than happy to take on the blood sugars and sit on them till need be.

Thanks Warren, I'm used to >1000 calories/day, ain't a thang but a chicken wing. I appreciate the better explanation, SoMuch, you've got more patience than I, we're on the Internet and google is free and stuff.

I was worried about you until you came back...

lol Thanks, John! Naw, I'm in it for life, lifestyle change and all. I'll never go back to overweight, where I lived for forty years. The reason a lot of people get in trouble on a maintenance diet is because they fail to realize just how strict a maintenance diet still must be (ch.19 Atkins NDR).

That is really low cal, especially for a guy. You are such an example for so many. Glad you came back!

You are an inspiration Phil. Looking forward to the day I am on maintenance. I will get there and fun watching someone who is succeeding as I know I will when I get there :).

I've been paying more attention to refeeding the gut bugs...getting some interesting results by paying more attention to the insulin index than the carbs. If it's true that insulin resistance is the driver for obesity, then insulinogenic foods are the things to watch. What I find most confounding in this is that things that are low on the glycemic index are sometimes low in the insulin index. And vice versa. So far, neither navy beans nor sweet potato have thrown me out of ketosis. You've got the keto lifestyle down pat, Phil....maintenance is about living life.

No wonder you dropped all that weight so quickly! I admire your willpower to keep it under 1000 calories/day, especially since you're a bit taller than my 5'5". Just goes to show, you can still be healthy even on a low-cal WOE.

Thanks, Soon, no doubt low-carb/low-cal is like alchemy.

Mskestrela, you are on the right path with watching glycemic and insulin index. My diet is all about that. Finding foods that are nutrient rich, but fill you up. FRESH makes a difference too. Avoid anything in a package. I like your thinking!!!
