Diana 1234's Journal, 06 February 2024

Yesterday was my 1st workout since Drs visit where they tweaked my pacemaker. The device tech did not put ii in sports mode but whatever tweaks they did made my workout incredibly hard. It was one of the worst workouts I've had in a long time. I took body pump ( weightlifting to music) and found I was struggling with my regular weight selection. About 45 min into class I began to get really nauseous. Coincidence? I don't know...I take the same class on Weds so I'll see if it's any better.
In my last post I said I was pacing 92-96% but I received Drs overview of my appointment and what they did etc and she noted pacemaker was actually pacing 97% of the time. That means in one minute my heart only beats 3 times on its own and the pacemaker is doing all the work..Kind of scary...
Had a really good food day yesterday. Stuck to my macros and ate clean, healthy foods. It's what works for me. Today I'm going for blood work to see if my thyroid is low again. It would explain why I'm not able to lose any weight, even though I've been 99% sticking to my diet. (had a bad day on Sunday) I'm also losing hair and my nails are very ridgey and brittle. Have a bit of brain fog and moodiness as well.

Diana, I have been following your posts. I’m deeply impressed how you’ve been dealing with the heart situation—you are amazing! The current lack of strength must be so frustrating to you, I’m sorry. I’m sort of bewildered your nutritionist is not giving you better guidance here—this must be related to how much you eat with the level of exercise and lifting you do. Your body is clearly struggling here. I would go back to the drawing board with the calories, macros, etc. Maybe you are not fueled enough for both the exercise you do and the weight loss you want to achieve.

💙 I may not know what change is needed but you are beautiful and strong. It is ok not to feel perfect on the outside. On the inside, though, you are... you are perfect; as are we all. I am moody and sensitive... and perfect. Just like that. Was it Mr. Rogers who said he loved you, just the way you are? He was my hero when I was little...

Agnes, Thank you so much for following me. Sometimes it feels lonely going through this…. My nutritionist has been advising me. We have been successful in the past with my WOE and my fitness level. She has been advising me during this time but for some unknown reason it doesn’t seem to be giving me the results I want. My nutritionist is the one who suggested I get some blood work done as I do have a low thyroid and she suspects that is the culprit. You may be right about needing more fuel..She also tells me to eat more. I tend to have low calories when following a non processed WOE. I mean, how many calories can veggies have..lol?.. she did advise I up my carbs, especially when I work out hard. I personally do find a bowl f oatmeal or some rice etc with dinner the night before does help fuel me for workouts. I’ll keep you posted on results of blood work. Thanks again for the support.💜

I'm sorry you're still struggling to get back to your sweet spot. There have to be some carbs that fit in your clean eating plan to help fuel your workouts. I personally love a bowl of assorted fruits for breakfast. I usually pair it with half a bagel & peanut butter. It's possible that doing a workout after traveling, your body wasn't quite up to it. I find traveling can be draining.

Ideally, with a pacemaker, how many beats should your be doing on it's own? I probably would have quit during the class if it was so hard, especially if I got nauseated. Do you have a local doctor you can talk about heart issues or do you only have the doctors in San Diego? I'm having oatmeal today with bananas and walnuts and cooked with milk. Over 60 grams of carbs just for that meal! Hard to stay under 100 grams. But oatmeal is so filling if I eat it as my last meal. I know it can be really hard to lose weight when your thyroid is underactive. Hope you feel better

I agree with Agnes 100%. I would actually just stick with walking and a healthy diet, plus easy weights at home with your arms. I was always told weight loss diet is 70-80% diet and 20-30% exercise. Being you are dealing with a pacemaker, I would skip the gym 100% and just stay with low impact exercises.

Sherrye, it's not that I can't have carbs, I just need to keep them at around 100 grams so I have to be selective. My nutritionist encouraged me to have grains and some fruit as the benefits are good. I do put berries or even peanut butter in my oatmeal sometimes. I usually eat an apple everyday as well. I eat more fruit in summer than winter as I love the soft fruits and watermelon! 💜 I just need to find the right combo for me...I'm not obsessed about weight right now, as long as I'm not gaining. I still try to replicate some of your food posts. You are a good cook for sure! 😘💜

Maincoon, Thanks. I definitely am slowing down weightlifting wise and trying to incorporate more light cardio. I went from 6 days of lifting to 4 days and on the 2 off days I am either doing treadmill at a fast walking pace or just walking my neighborhood. It's hard when you get used to results and then your body stops responding... hopefully I'll figure it out...🩷. Zoofeather, Ill take that as a compliment! I'm pretty determined and I don't give up easily...💜

Fritzy, thank you for always responding to my posts..Im appreciative of that! Even though we have different ways of achieving our goals I feel like we have similar WOE and and also similar obstacles. You are my biggest cheerleader and I hope you know I'm yours! As for how much is normal for a pacemaker to pace, I dk the answer. I'm assuming the less, the better. I just know what they tell me about mine. What is your portion of oatmeal? I eat about .65 of a cup in the morning so I get between 25-35 carbs. I just saw a thing where if you say make oatmeal using 1/2 c oatmeal and 1 cup water, you can double your amount without adding more oatmeal if you double liquid and cook it for 11-15 min instead of the normal 5-7 min. It apparently plumps the grain by double. It was a "Hungry Girl" hack if you know who she is .She suggested using water and milk or almond milk instead of double water for more creaminess. I'm going to try it tomorrow.💜

I just follow the directions on the box and make 2 servings. So 1 serving has 1/2 of rolled oats and about 3/4 cup of fat free milk - I don't use water. So the carbs are from the milk, bananas and oats. I don't like oatmeal to be soupy so I refrigerate overnight. At the most I have it twice a week. There are other fruits with less carbs like blackberries, raspberries and even pineapple spears. I microwave the oatmeal. My exercise is walking, never was crazy about the gym other than running on a treadmill or using a stair climbing machine. Years ago I was a runner and it really kept my legs toned. I've always hated my legs, never wore shorts except for the 3 or 4 years that I ran almost every day. But never did weights

I think we're on parallel tracks, Diana. I so hear this. There is something I want for myself, too. But I just cannot force it to happen right now. I cannot control the circumstances in such a way so as to create my desired outcome. I am left with a choice. Do I continue to think about what I want but do not have (thinking about it makes me agitated), or do I keep my goal in sight and decide to be content right now? Life is enough as is. You are enough as is. 💙 Right now is ok. It is a decision. A state of mind. 💙

Buenita, thanks. I'm trying to slow down a bit. 🩷

Diana the last comment Unity1234 said really resonates. Read it twice💕. I, like others, am wondering about not just your thyroid but also curious about your iron levels and whether or not you are anemic. I was anemic most of my life till post menopause and that does cause a lot of exhaustion although you are dealing with a cardiac component i was not. I am on a 90 day mission of once a day oatmeal not for the energy but just to give it a last ditch effort to see if it moves the LDL needle at all before next labs. Gosh, you are such a fighter my love dont forget who you are!!!! You are fierce and strong and it is perfectly fine to give yourself some down time. After all you share the same name as the Diana from Greek mythology. The huntress. She was fierce and strong also.

YOH, I loved what Unity said in both her posts. I'm trying to be grateful for where I am today and not fret so much about what I think I should be.. I had a complete blood work panel done today, including Iron levels and Vitamins B and D. Vitamins B and D are commonly low in people with thyroid disease. I also was anemic most of my childhood and young adulthood. I did ask cardiologist if heart issues can cause this but she seemed to think it was probably not related. 💜
