Welcome to Wyoming's House of Space Heaters. The furnace blower failed completely yesterday. The HVAC folks we were working with couldn't get an estimator out until Tuesday & no furnace until a month or two. In Wyoming. In the dead of winter

Fortunately, we called around and found someone who sent an estimator out last night and who have promised us a new furnace Tuesday. Fingers crossed it all goes smoothly. In the meantime, it's warm clothes and blankets and space heaters in strategic spots to keep both us and the pipes from freezing 🥶

I know it doesn't get as cold where I live as it is in Wyoming. But I've been keeping the heater off for the most part. I can deal with cold better than heat. 48 degrees in the house in the morning is as cold as it has been. If I turn the heater on, I leave it on just long enough to get close to 62 or 63 and then turn it off. I am comfortable at that temperature. I did get a space heater last year and it does a great job of heating the master bedroom.

And dancing. Booty shaking warms you up. I’ve been layering up and busting my moves at night rather than using the space heater (so far). Do you have a fireplace? That would feed into my romantic notions of WY. Separately— will you be heading to the gym this weekend?

We usually keep our heat at 62 as well, Fritzy, but 56 is a bit chilly even for us. JustBananas -- no gym for now. We're gathering with family, some vulnerable, next week. After 2 colds in 3 months, I don't want to risk catching anything else before we see them. Takes priority over the gym at the moment

Debbie, CrystalJo -- thanks so much 😊 We'll be fine. We have enough space heaters to get by. Have a fireplace too, but haven't fired it up yet. We don't have a huge amount of wood on hand, so we're saving that option for if we're more desperate 😉

I should clarify again that we're not going to have to go without heat for a month 🥶😜 We called around and got on someone else's schedule for a new one on Tuesday

we had a pellet stove with a blower in our Connecticut house for years. it's more expensive than regular firewood, but it burns hot and is relatively clean. you could also fit your existing fireplace with a blower kit if the furnace falls through. not ideal, but neither is freezing all winter. good luck!

burns hotter, SMH

I'm not too concerned, otb. It's a good sized, well established company. Fritzy -- don't know where we'd put one! 😃 Small house, and we kind of burned out on home improvement projects a few years ago. Doubt we could get it installed any faster than a furnace, especially since these folks got us on the schedule so fast. Thanks, though! If we ever decide to put heat into the garage we converted, I'll look into that option

OMG. What's gonna be a challenge. I hope your electric bills won't go too sky high.

I know you know —-but be careful of that carbon monoxide. Make sure your detectors are working. Glad they’re getting you in on Tuesday. It would have been awful to wait a month.

Agggh! That just happened to us a week before Thanksgiving!

Thanks for the reminder, moko. Went and tested ours directly, and it appears to be in working order. I had an uncle and aunt who died of carbon monoxide poisoning almost 30 years ago Draglist-- I figure whatever electric we use for space heaters the next couple of days is cheaper than frozen pipes. Plus, we're not burning the gas TBH, we're holding up just fine 😊 It's a little chilly, but mostly in the mid-50s. We actually feel extremely fortunate this happened when it did. If we had been traveling, we could have come home to a house full of busted pipes or worse. We're fortunate we found someone who could take care of us quickly. I'm kind of finding the humor in the whole situation 😉
