I'm about to rant, so please feel free to pass by if that's not your thing. I was looking in my app for maple syrup this morning, and this featured product popped to the top. IMO, it's everything that's wrong with American food culture in one product. Nothing but corn syrup, HCFS, additives and coloring, so of course only 1/3 the cost of real maple syrup. Happy cartoon character to draw children's attention. I'm sure it's heavily marketed to kids, and I would guess stocked in the grocery stores at child eye-level. Another example of "kid food" that's nutritionally horrifying. Ugh. Maybe it's fun, maybe as a treat, but it's basically liquid candy to be served up as breakfast.

At least lots of us pay attention to labels now. When I was a kid in the 60's most of our diet was processed junk - especially for breakfast.

That blue food coloring is the work of the Devil. Shocking!

And there’s a pancake mix to go with it.

Syrup is stocked in the same aisle as cereal at my local grocery market. And all the boxed items with bars individually wrapped in cellophane. I don't think that's coincidence.

To me, that looks like a bottle of toilet cleaner............not food!

Fritzy - I was a kid in the 70s, and I started off the day with Trix cereal a lot of morning. Yep, a lot of processed -- but we also had real meals, less frequent snacks, and people believed kids shouldn't always be catered to. At least in my house, that's the way it was. miel -- I know! Ugh! The sight turned my stomach! Doogle... OMG no... JustBananas -- yep, indeed. Sugar, sugar, galore, with a lot of it "healthwashed". I eat granola bars sometimes... but not every day. Mostly while hiking or skiing, when after a certain point I could really use some quick calories. I don't consider them "health food" LivinBreezy -- I'm sure, sadly, it got 4 stars because people found out that their kids love it. I'm sure if I were a kid today, I'd be clamoring for Mom to buy it. I don't judge parents. Many don't have good knowledge of nutrition, and this is the "ocean blue" of marketing they have to constantly swim against

I have a friend whose dad is a product placement guy. it's insane the lengths they go to marketing this stuff in television and movies. ironically, they're all super healthy minded.

katsolo - I've seen where now another marketing ploy is sucking kids into internet games

But, but, but … “TRIX is for kids!!” 🙃😆

That is insane.

Ugh I feel the same way. It’s not cool and then we wonder why there’s so many health problems now. The food being made now is straight up junk. I hate it.

Yikes, looks like a container of anti-freeze I saw in the shed 😨 Can anyone say "Poison Control" 🤬

sk.17 -- I remember well the funny rabbit that made Trix my favorite cereal. Petra - I'm not totally opposed to all junk food under every circumstance. It just seems, though, like it's out of control since I was a kid. Sidnay & simplystephc -- couldn't agree more. LivinBreezy -- LOL! Let's hope kids don't confuse the two!

And then I go on YouTube and see documentary videos where kids are going under general anesthesia so they can get multiple rotten baby teeth pulled. My first experience with the dentist was in first grade, where he told me all my teeth were fine and to be sure to brush, then sent me on my merry way. Or middle schoolers diagnosed with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease or type II diabetes. This is no way to raise kids. A few years ago, I went to an event where they had a buffet with a "kids buffet" -- nothing but chicken nuggets, fries, corn dogs, etc., etc. When did we get this idea that kids were incapable of eating adult food? That they have to have Go-gurt instead of yogurt? Chicken nuggets instead of chicken? How are kids ever going to learn to eat healthy as adults when they're never exposed to healthy foods as kids? I'm not saying no treats, no fast or convenience foods ever, but maybe it should be the minority of the diet? I can't say anything, but I'm perpetually horrified at the way my siblings feed their kids, but it's just what everyone does now

I remember my packed lunch when I was in grade school was usually a peanut butter sandwich on Wonder bread, an apple, Hostess cupcakes and a lunch size bag of Fritos or potato chips. If I didn't eat it all it was the apple I brought home. My mom tried to make a healthy dinner but back then it was canned vegetables and fruit, a meat of some kind (steak if my dad was home, pork chops, chicken, etc), potato and usually a fresh salad. Oh, and bread and butter. Usually Wonder bread. When we moved to California I was in the 6th grade and we started having more fresh fruit and vegetables. I think there may be more junk now, but many of us try to avoid it.

All of our restaurants her in Texas. Have stopped selling fruit salads and dark bread. Can’t believe this. White bread and fried potatoes are what’s killing us too! We don’t eat at those places again.

Funny how the same ppl who sell the junk/chemicals sell the medicine to heal it’s effects. Viscous cycle driven by profit. It’s become so much more plain to see.
