Heat wave! I guess it's all over California. I always expect the weather to start getting cooler in September but we are expecting 110 in Sacramento on Monday, 109 and 108 on days before and after. I am about 60 miles north but we will be over 105 here as well I expect. They want us to conserve energy from 4pm to 9pm to make sure that don't have to shut off power (how on earth will there be enough electricity when everyone is supposed to get electric cars?). So I am doing laundry and running the dishwasher around 6am and turn the a/c up to 78 at 4pm. 78 is really too warm for me so I turn it down around midnight to 76. I keep my house dark during the day with all the blinds drawn and now that the skylight blinds have been fixed it is really dark inside! I don't plan on going anywhere for the next 5 or 6 days to stay out of the heat. I cooked a casserole in the oven at 7am because I don't want to turn the oven on later in the day, it makes the house hot. The bad thing about doing that is I end up eating lunch around 8:30 because the casserole is so good! Had grapes for dinner.

hot here, too, but not in the 100's yet. stay safe and let us know you're okay from time to time.

We had 100 degree + temps in June, July and August. It was brutal this year. I know y'all out west are suffering right now. We did like you, shut ourselves in and try to conserve. Hopefully it will get better soon.

Seriously did no one think about this?? hahahaha - try to stay cool.

The pool at the gym is feeling pretty darn good this week. Where I am in Anaheim, it always cools down at night. I don’t care how hot it is during the day as long as I don’t have to sleep with the AC on.

We live where it is often hot with high heat indexes as the humidity is horrible so we do a lot of the things you mentioned routinely. We have blinds and they are closed most of the time on the sides of the house that the light can get into. I never do laundry in the evening. Wait till late or early to run the dishwasher. Use the crock pot a lot and the toaster oven. Small appliances that don't heat up the house. Saves on electricity. We are all electric and the bill can sap you if you don't prepare.

Thanks Kat! I had wifi and my phone out for a whole day earlier this week and I've been working with a mortgage officer on the Oregon coast to get prequalified for whenever I find a house to buy so don't check in as often. Superman - it has been a really hot summer, but usually 2 or 3 days in the 100's and then it would cool to the 90's for awhile. Thanks Imalittle everyone I know is just staying inside until the heat passes. No barbecues for Labor Day unless they are at 7am! I've noticed the weather has been brutal all over the country. The flooding in Kentucky and other places is just horrible. Thanks Navywife - I enjoy the somewhat cool mornings and it doesn't really get bad until late afternoon when I turn the a/c up to 78. Thanks APhoebe - Yuba City is about 30 miles away and it's always the hottest place listed on the local news. I'm hoping to move to the Oregon coast too! Bananas - I should have bought extra grapes so I could freeze some! But I'll finish what I have today. Thanks Rocketqueen - I have a couple friends who grew up or have lived in Redding - it is even hotter there! Isn't Texas hot too? Thanks Max - my a/c couldn't keep up yesterday. I tried to get it down to 76 early in the afternoon and it wouldn't go below 77. Kenna - it does cool down usually in the evenings, but not right now. It's still in the high 80's or 90's at midnight so the a/c never goes off.

Morticia - at least we have no humidity so it's a dry heat. But that's why we get so many fires. I often run the dishwasher or do laundry between midnight and 6am when I wake in the middle of the night and can't get back to sleep. Usually wake by 3:30 and get up by 5 or so and that's the only time I'll use the oven. I do have a toaster oven i use for baked potatoes and even a small tuna casserole. I have a propane tank go that is used for hot water and the gas stove, and for a couple of months in the winter when the furnace is used. My last electric bill was over $500 and I'm scared to see the next one.

I am so much like Morticia. I live in the "bayou state" which only has 2 seasons. Winter and Summer. (LOL) The humidity is awful, with high heat indexes. I walk outside, and have to be careful since I'm a "young" 67 year young woman. (hehehe) Anyway, keep doing what you are doing. It's a wonderful plan! Have a cool, fabulous Friday! :)

Fritzy what part of Oregon are you considering? A close friend of mine lives in Lincoln City. Beautiful place and she loves it and has lived there 25 years. Drawback— no readily available medical care.

Thanks Chose - I am 67 as well. We have very little to no humidity and have brief springs and falls. Seems like it's summer from May until early November with the ongoing droughts and heat waves. Thanks Kenna - I always ask about hospitals and health care when I look to move. For awhile I was looking in Gualala and The Sea Ranch in Northern California on the coast. It's about an hour or so north or Bodega Bay. The realtor told me they had medical offices but most people get helicopter insurance because for the hospital they would need to fly you to Santa Rosa. It really is a major consideration when moving.
