Thanks everyone! I've been trying to upload this picture for several weeks and it would never take. It's funny, the fawn's instinct was to run away when she saw me but when she saw Mama walking towards me the baby got brave too. Mama has probably been on or near my property all her life. I've learned they don't wander in my neighborhood more than a couple of houses.

I love your animal sanctuary. How do the deer get along with your dogs & cats? Do they ever cuddle sleep together?

Bananas - my dog and my cats stay inside. Bobby will run at the deer when they are on the other side of the fence just to see them run away. When the big bucks with their huge antlers are inside the fence, sleeping under the deck, Bobby knows enough to go along the fence line to do his business and get back inside quickly. Deer and cats are not afraid of each other. I was surprised when I first moved here. A neighbor's cat was in my front yard and so was a deer. I was concerned for the cat but she just started grooming herself. Another time I let Marco out when a baby deer was outside. They kept creeping towards each other and finally touched noses before Marco wanted back inside. I've never seen deer sleeping with other wildlife. They are scared of most dogs.

A fawn and a cat touching noses would have been the grandest of all pictures. I would have held my breath the whole time, waiting to see what happened next. I suspect a mountain lion would not inspire the same Bambi experience. It's a shame Mama doesn't know that Bobby is just playing. Are you able to get close enough to pet them or feed them by hand?

Navy - I was so surprised when I moved here to see how well the deer got along with cats. Both cats and deer instinctively know they don't need to fear each other. Now dogs is another story. Most deer will run from dogs. The deer at my house know Bobby but know he likes to chase anything that will run. Of course he can chase anything very far, just run the length of the fencing. Thansk Moritica - I've only seen the fawn twice. There are a couple of other does that still look pregnant. The area where they are standing is covered with huge rounds from my oak tree right now.
