Another quick trip to the weight room. About 30 minutes to work. Cut the abs a set short to catch a shower and then no towels. WTF. I didn't go full Karen, but I did go behind the front desk when no one was looking to see if they had a stash..
Office is workable. Roughed out the workstation and cleaned up before I hit the gym. Cabling needs to be sorted plus sound and a couple other things, but I am back in with a standing/sitting workstation, more space, rubber floor, and so much cleaner. Also poached #1's bigger monitor. We'll see if he notices.
So every once in a while the universe offers a small bit of feedback indicating I might have gotten something right as a parent. Last night, when #1 gave me the debrief on his shift, was such a moment.
He's working at a pizza place. Fast casual, with intermittent table service if staffing permits. Owners/chefs are Italian from the old country, excellent in the kitchen, and solid operators. This is their third store. Food's terrific, neighborhood is semi-bourgie, prices are high, but it's still a pizza joint.
Last night dude comes in with his crew. Busting #1's balls over service, which was admittedly off. Kitchen sent appetizers and entres out simultaneously. So he orders a bottle of wine. #1 delivers it, and then he requests that it be decanted.
Dad: Get the fuck outta here!
#1: 100%
Dad: What a fucktard! What did you do?
#1: Yeah, that's what Claudio (boss) asked me. I told him "watch this", grabbed this glass vase thingy that we use for tips, dumped the change, and "decanted" his wine!
Dad: No fuckin way! You got away with that?!?
#1: Yep. Dude had no clue.
Dad: LMAO Very good, but you know he was right about his complaint?
#1: Yeah, whatever. Captain Flex put on a big show picking up the tab with his Gold Amex. What a poser. Even I can get a Gold card..
It's at moments like these that I know for certain that all the blood, sweat, tears and treasure we've invested as parents has been worthwhile!
