After my complete freakout today and some major soul searching I decide that I am NOT doing atkins ... not now , not ever. I was doing really good since I started this new healthy eating plan in beginning of january. I was not feeling deprived , I wasnt craving things and I was happy. I have lost 14 pounds in one month without atkins so why I got it in my head that I needed to get even more strict is beyond me. I tend to get a bit obsessive. I know that atkins works wonders for some people, I just dont think it is for me. I have been stressed , obsessively trialing foods in the counter before deciding what I may or may not eat so that I dont go over the 20 net carbs ... Its too much. This is not something I can sustain for a lifestyle. I still plan to eat low carb just not that low. I want to be able to cook with and for my family. I dont want to have to eat a seperate meal from them. I want us all to eat healthier.

For me , this weight loss is a battle , one I have fought and lost many times. But I will keep fighting, I will not quit on myself. I will continue to educate myself, I will continue with trial and error and I will learn what my body needs to lose weight and sustain it for my life.

I think I just got crazed , we started the weight challenge at work and everyones talking about this diet and that diet. Who is doing atkins ? Who is doing shakeology ? Dont eat any carbs , eat more protein , eat more fat , do this dont do that .Try this diet , try that diet . Well damn it ... I am putting my foot down. I dont need to name my damn diet , I am NOT on a diet. I am trying to change my whole lifestyle. I will succeed. If I only lose 1-2 pounds a week and this battle takes me over a year , so be it.

Sorry for my rant ... Just needed to get that out.

Amen, Sister! Thank you for putting into words what so many of us struggle with: the pressure, the "diets", the names, the carbs. ARG! I just want to scream. You're so right. Do something you can sustain. Sure, eating bacon and cheese omelets forever sounds great for a while, just so long as you never want to eat another bowl of pasta! Never. Ever. You rock. Fourteen pounds in a month? Holy cow. You're amazing. Do what you can live with, and above all, what doesn't turn you into a freak. Great observations. Awesome.

Good for you! We know what's best for us . Weight loss must be sustainable for it to be successful. I do a "modified version" of Atkins and have seen steady weight loss just not as fast as Atkins .

You are definitely on the right track so stay with what is working for you. it can make your head spin with all the diets that are out there, but you lost 14 pounds eating healthy without all the restrictions! Just remember that slow and steady wins the race. Congratulations for an awesome accomplishment! :-)

You have to do what works for you, I find out if I starve myself from carbs to much then I go off the deep end and before I know what is happening my mouth is full of junk food. You did great on you last adventure, I would keep that one up.

Atkins works well for many people but you have to be able to follow through not just the induction part. I have tried atkins. Lost weight, couldn't sustain it much beyond induction as i eat a mostly plant based diet , atkins higher fat and all that meat was simply making me sick. Gained what i lost and more. You have to find what works for you. It's been proven that diets don't work only sustained healthy lifestyle changes work over the long haul.

I hear ya, I have tried so many "diets" but they were not a lifestyle change- I was stressed out and when I was done I would go back to the way I was eating before. I am counting calories now but that is to get my mond reset on what a good anount and good choices are. Thanks for putting it out there, many of us get so caught up in the different diets (me included)!

Atkins is one version of low carb but there are others that really work too. Good luck as you find the plan that will work for you.

If you are going to really make a change, don't go on a diet that you can't use for the rest of your life. Water rich foods as Tony Robbins says is the way to go. I always knew this but finally started doing it.

I hate to follow any diet plan. It has never worked for me. whenever I refrain myself from eating something like chocolates, pizza, soda it works for some week , but then I end up having more than usual. So, this time I am trying to do something different. I will eat everything but in smaller quantity. Instead of eating complete slab of chocolate, I'll try to eat just 2 squares, I'll try to stick 1 can of soda per week and 1-2 slice of Pizza per week ( Cannot just stop think about Pizza:-))). And I am going to celebrate mini victories. Every time I loose more than 4 Pounds... I will treat myself a piece of cake .... That's the plan.. Lets Hope it works

Low carb is really the only way of eating that works for me. I've tried counting calories and just "cutting back", I can't do that, I love food way too much and have very little willpower when it comes to certain foods. When I have a little and it tastes good, I end up wanting (and most of the time, getting) more. The appetite suppressing benefit of Atkins is what keeps me coming back to it, I just have to be consistant.

If it makes you feel any better the most successful people I know who lost the weight and kept it off never had a name for their diets either. It always seems to Atkinish or Paleo Kinda.. except for fill in the blank. You'll find what works for you and you'll be happier and more successful.

You are right to do what works best for you. And I don't think we should name it... I think we shoudl just do it... you take some guidelines and make it happen for you. I follow Atkins but I modify it to meet my needs.... So perhpas I don't totally do Atkins. I have just found that in my life, if I get rid of the sugar and processed foods, I feel better and weight starts to move in the right direction. You do what makes you feel best and you are right to try not to get caught up in everyone's noise. I did that last year and spent the entire year yo-yoing and gaining weight and feeling bad. Now I am just eating for life.... YOU CAN DO THIS! It's all about HEALTH!

You know how some children go into one direction and others go into another? For example, in large families, some siblings lead contrasting lives, in spite of being raised by the same parents. One might go to jail for crimes committed, another may obtain a drug problem, another may have alcohol addiction, one might get leukemia while the other siblings become models of good citizenship... We all probably know a mother who is confused why one of her children has gone "so bad" and blames herself but doesn't know what she did "wrong". Each troubled person would need a different therapy treatment in hopes of getting "normal". That's why psychiatrists often work one on one with their clients. So it is with each of our bodies. What we have put into our mouths all our lives has trained our bodies to react a certain way, resulting in the bodies we have today. One diet will work for one person, but not for some others. One food will metabolize for one person, but not for some others. Only you know what will work for your body. Only you can create the lifestyle that will make you feel best about yourself. You are on the right track! Go for it!

Thank you so much everyone ... I feel totally relieved and back on track today ... I still plan to eat lower carbs and whole unproccessed foods as much as possible ... but just not to the point that I am too stressed to function.

You can do it, and do it on your own terms. Do not let others, or a competition lead you to be unhealthy. I was doing a weight loss thing at work last year. Lost 33 pounds and about 13% of my body weight. Top prize was 3,000 dollars, second was 2,000, and third was 1,000. I really wanted that money and killed it to try and get it. The last few weeks I found myself becoming unhealthy, starving my selve, and crushing it on exercise. I got down to my goal weight, but guess what. I put it right back on. I am now looking at things a lot differently. I am the VP of the wellness committee at work. I wanted to get away from these competitions and enact a more fitness, and nutrition based program. MY fitness subcommittee is in the process of testing fitbit devices to try and promote this healthy change, but also be able to give deliverables to our companies board of directiors who is funding the committee with 20,000. I am not against weightloss by anymeans, but these competitions can lead to unhealthy practices like, water pills, starving, and just all around unhealthy things. Be you, don't conform to what some of the others in the office are doing. Don't dwell on the completion aspect or what others think. You are doing this for you, and believe in yourself!
