Ya should have seen the barman (Gerry)face screw up as he asked me for a second time...

"ya want a wha"?

"I want another pint of guinness for me Dad and a pint of water with a dash of lime for me"

"Jaysus, I'm gettin' worried about you Dave - do ya want low fat water"?

"Feck off Gerry"

"Feck off yerself ya oul ~@>%&*"

Gerry's like part of the family, he's been in that pub serving meself and me Da two pints of velvety Guinness each, on a Tuesday night for years ... and apparantly this just aint 'regular'!! chuckles, keep 'em guessing I say.

Talking about being regular has anyone heard the theory of metabolic memory? I was reading some stuff about people (just like me!) who tend to eat very 'samey' foods, the same kind of foods all the time. The theory goes that much like muscle memory where the muscles remember, get used to and react less efficiently if you stick to the same workout rountine, that similarily if we have the same diet all the time our metabolism can become used to dealing with those foods and act less efficiently and stall weight loss. The advice was to always shake things up, trick your metabolism and keep it guessing. Some would say that the chinese, aboriginees or native american plains indians all has a very limited diet based soley on indigenous foods and were healthy but then again others would argue that they had much more active lifestyles and crucially once they were introduced to more processed and 'different' foodstuffs, all that changed. The articles said much much more - but my brain was 'bursting' for something silly to do by then!!!

Now for the most important question of the day... Picture the scene.. You are on a luxury cruise...with a gally full of all kinds of ingrediants... but tragicly the cruise liner hits a mediterreanean iceberg [slight pause!] and starts to sink... the captain yells that you are gonna be dropped off at a deserted island and you can choose THREE things from the kitchen...

What would ya take??????

(me? a feckin' HUGE bowl of s/f jelly and cream.... and something else!probably more cream!)

Now off for a gander round the journals!!...

I'm presuming the refrigeration of all that cream is part of the fantasy so spoilage is not an issue.

Dave, I am surprised that he even knew what water was...are you sure he didnt have to look up the word in a dictionary? Good on you for staying with the program...when Gerry is laying in bed miserable for all that Guiness you can jog past his window to show off your health. If ya want...run naked to show of yer new found body! (OK..that last bit was just for my own pleasure LOL). Three things I would take to an Island? 3 really smart funny friends to help pass the time. I could probably find some crap on the Island to eat, but loneliness starves the mind no end.Oh..you would definitely be one of them Dave my friend!

Time to mosey off yonder into the cloudset (desperate weather over here, I bet the tennis at wimbleton will get rained off this week). Have snooker tonight..yayy. Enjoy a spectacular day y'all...

Hmmm I never heard that eating the same foods all the time could stall out one's metabolism. I tend to be a creature of habit and eat the same food all the time. I think I better shake it up a bit and see what happens! My 3 things from the kitchen would be: 1) Peanut Butter :), 2) Watermelon, and 3) Fixin's for my favorite recipe....Parmesan Chicken! Have a great day Daihti!!

Great for you to pass on the 2nd glass of the dark stuff! Love that Gerry can't handle it! lol =D Hmmm... pepper, crab (all of it), and dry beans... I can cook about anything with enough pepper and some beans! lol =D Have a terrific day! xoxo Thanks so much for your cares and concerns.

Well, Dave, you always keep us guessing, just do the same with your metabolism. ;) Indigenous people of all parts of the world have quite a varied diet. I don't know what study you were referring to but I read "Nutrition and Physical Degeneration" which studies the diets of isolate people all over the world. They all had one thing in common: the amount of each type of mineral and vitamin in their diets. As they became exposed to refined and processed foods their health declined. It's not about change so much as making sure you are always getting all the minerals and vitamins in the right amounts, variety assures that you are, but you can make "variety" your "routine". :)

This has been great fun to read, but I think I like Keri's answer the best. I laughed out loud when I got to it. Our poor Keri, struggling so much lately - she even takes it into her fantasy!!! Nonetheless, it was funny. I have read the same thing about our metabolism. But to tell you the truth - I had kinda forgotten. So thanks for shaking things up and making us do the same! Now - to the serious business. I'd take the number for Mexican delivery, Italian delivery and Thai delivery. Hey - it's a fantasy, right???
