What else can I do to jump start my ketosis? Im on day 3 (monday I goofed) of eating right. The scale moved down 3lbs already but Id really love to lose 5 lbs this 1st week and Im not afraid to work for it. Ive been adding in my fats, cutting back my carbs, drinking more water and working out. Maybe some extra cardio or cream cheese? I know how low carb works its just been a while.

On a side note, my weight is steady at 219.6 down from 222 on Tuesday. Waiting till Monday to log. I managed to get my net carbs even lower yesterday down from 26 to 22 and drank 2x as much water as the day before and did not eat after 730pm. I just want to push myself a bit more these next few days...

The cardio will have little effect on ketosis. And you will probably also get a bit tired when switching from sugar burning to fat burning. Ketosis will come as long as you keep you carbs low enough and eat some fat. You feel it it. It takes 3-4 days for most people

You have not lost any "real" weight yet, its all water. It takes a couple of weeks for your body to switch over. Water intake is great, it will help a lot. Remember this isn't about a "fast" solution, because that will only just come right back. Slow and steady while less exciting and motivating is the only way to keep it off.

Intermittent fasting is said to jump start ketosis. You might try it for a couple of days. The idea is to go as long as you can in between meals/insulin spikes, to allow your body to use up all the glucose, so that your body switches to using fat for energy instead of using glucose. 16:8 is the generally recommended ratio (16 hours with nothing to eat, just drink water, coffee, tea, then consume your daily calories within the following 8 hours.) I like to do a 20:4 ratio, fasting 20 hours and eating my daily calories between 3pm and 7pm (I don't usually eat as many calories on the day I do this, because my stomach seems to have shrunk. Also, if you are getting your fat consumption right, you should not have cravings.

Water loss is "real" to me since Ive ballooned up to 222 lbs in 2 years :) (45 lbs gain in 2 years) But I understand what your saying Dee and I agree. Ive been so wishy washy over these two years and just want to buckle down and get my act together and since Ive lost 3 lbs Im walking on Sunshine and just want to push it.. but if it doesn't happen then so be it!Ill keep working at it. I do a 12:12 fast so 8am to 8pm but Im usually done eating by 7pm and plan to cut that back this weekend and aiming for a 8:16 fast to start. Goals!

Please make sure you are getting enough salt. When eating low carb, the body sheds salt; which can cause headaches, dizziness, constipation.

The mental game is different for everyone, but my strategy is this -- when I get impatient about the pace of progress I try to just acknowledge that it sucks and stick to the plan, like a marathon runner keeping a set pace. On the rare occasion I'm not hungry, I still eat my planned thing, because I view "game time" decisions as the larger problem. Also, in my experience, that honeymoon period ends after a couple weeks and having built up steady habits will be worth more than an extra couple lbs lost. I can't say it's the "one true way" but having lost and gained 50 lbs a couple times, I am actively trying to lose impulsiveness, rather than weight, this time around.

Try and keep nett carbs under 20gms, don't 'buy' any ketones...it's a waste of money and does not help with weight loss :)

Thanks for sharing your find. I'll look at Stop & Shop, Walmart & Amazon has everything, haha. Good luck on your journey. 👍

I didn't see any mention of calories. Keto is just another way to limit them and you still have to be cognizant of how many you're getting if you want to ensure progress.

As your body adapts to the keto WOE, it will change over to burning your fat stores for energy. At first, you will likely eat less fat (than in keto maintenance) and that's where the initial weight loss in keto comes from. Also, please be sure to get enough salt and potassium - cutting carbs back, especially veggies, cuts the natural source of these electrolytes.

I agree about the calories - when I am successful I am in a calorie deficit, and eating higher healthy fats and low carbs. 1200 calories or less...

Ignore the calories. If keto works well for you the rest will fall in place

Fasting is the quickest way to go into ketosis. But don’t worry about it. You don’t have to compete with your weight loss 🙂 Stick to your plan and let the weight fall off as it may. This is of course coming from a girl that loves to bitch when the scale doesn’t move 😅😅🙃

I mean, you usually can ignore the calories because it is a restriction diet. Restriction diets work by limiting options. I'm only saying you will have to start doing both if you stall. I know people who quit losing because they choose the most calorie dense options available and consumed too much of it.

It is not the elimination of a food group that is the key. The key is ketosis. Once you shift to another way of creating energy things change such as how long you can go without food and how much you eat and things just fall in place - especially if you have plenty of stored body fat. If you already are thin - not so much.

Things fall into place on any diet. The key is finding the one that works for you. The best diet is the one someone can stick to for life.

And forcing your body to use an energy that it doesn't prefer is not in some way optimal. Keto flu doesn't happen because your body is happy. Keto requires supplements for a reason.

I agree but OP stated she was doing the keto diet, she deserves keto answers
