Today marks five years that I was hired as a fitness instructor. It's been an amazing journey and I always say I have the best job because I absolutely love what I do.

On Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays I'm live streaming my circuit training classes on my gym's Facebook page, which I'm getting paid for. On Tuesdays I do Zumba Toning on Zoom and on Thursdays it's Piloxing on Zoom. Those I'm doing for free. Zumba and Piloxing don't want us posting on social media, so that's why we're using Zoom. My circuit training classes aren't affiliated with any company nor do I use music, which Facebook tends to frown upon because I don't own the copyright to the music, and that's why I can live stream on Facebook. So far it's going well. But I really miss my students. I miss working out with them. That's been the hardest part of the gym being closed, not being able to workout together.

It's fantastic to have a job you love. Any exercise advice or tips for us seniors with back issues?

Depends on what kind of back issues. My mom had back surgery several years ago all she does is walk, and not on the treadmill, which is what her doctor recommended.

I have fusion at c5-c6 and about to have s1 and L1-L5 fused. I've also had surgery on both shoulders, my left knee and my right foot is wired together at metatarsal after 5 fractures. It broke again even though dr said it wouldn't. Basically I'm an orthopedic nightmare and legally disabled which helps explain weight gain over the years. Until all these closures I was doing water jogging and some swimming. My back dr says just walk & foot doctor says whatever I do don't walk. I'm stumped...and appreciate any suggestions 🙂

Wow - I remember that day, too! Such an accomplishment and success. Is you gym closed to members now?

The gym has been closed for two weeks, it'll probably be closed till May. So I'm live streaming on Facebook Mondays and Wednesdays and Fridays and on Tuesdays and Thursdays I use Zoom.

My mom had fusion of her spine too. And she has something with her foot as well, I can't remember. She walks as much as she can and watches what she eats. In situations like that it's best to listen to your doctors. It's hard because they are telling you opposite things. Maybe one of those foot pedal bikes and very low weights to do upper body exercises. I have a lady who broke her shoulder come to class, she used 3 lb weights. Sometimes nothing at all just moved her arms using dynamic resistance.
