I am 33 and a single mom of a 10 year old daughter. I played sports in HIgh School and was always in great shape until I hit my 20's. Marriage, child, divorce, back to college and working full time... I put myself on the back burner for 13 years and I am ready to turn it around and put myself first. I want to be active again and be a better role model for my daughter. We have been taking Scottish country dancing together for 3 weeks now and I love it!!I started out just watching calories which worked for a bit. My mom asked me to try Atkins with her. So after 1 week here I am. Its a learning process but I am feeling the difference even if its not always on the scale.

Good evening to all
I know 2 people who had it done. They look great but they also had to change their diets. They eat much smaller meals then they used to and about every 2-3 hours. If they eat too much or the "wrong" foods it comes right back up. One friend said he spent the first few days having it come back up and it was very unpleasent, but it forced him to eat differently.
Another friend I had I think had the bypass. They also have to eat differently. He said he he ate so much junk before now he has to make sure he gets enough protein. It took him awhile to get used to making his own food and making smoothies. All of them have had to change their diets and they have more restrictions then we do on Atkins.
Has she tried Atkins or anything else? I wish her good luck if this is the journey she chooses. I agree with many of you I am too scared to go through the surgery.

What are "hidden carbs"
From the book "The New Atkins for a New you" page 108 I understand hidden carbs to be carbs you didn't know food contained until you looked on the label and noticed it contained carbs and sugar. I actually had a moment last week where I looked at a label and was surprised to see a large amount of carbs and sugar. At the moment I can't remember what that item was. So as your starting its a good idea to check everything before it passes your lips. Its a lot of work at first but it does get easier.

food not in the journal
I am in Induction and some of the foods are not in the database. I have found that Bob's Big Boy's Lite Blue Cheese dressing only has 1 net carb and is low caloriewise compared to other lite bluecheese salad dressings. Also I found a cream cheese (if I read my book correctly we can have cream cheese) that has fewer net carbs then the brand philly cream cheese. Its rondele' Artichoke and Garlic.
How can I enter foods so that I get the correct count if its not in their database?
An I right that we can have the cream cheese. I am not a big cream cheese fan but this is a great alternative to peanut butter and is low in sugar <1g and only 1g Net carbs.
Thanks for the help!
