I've swap driving to cycling
Joyce - a tip for you from other cycling commuter sites for people who have to dress smart, take in a week's worth of clothes by your usual method of transport on Monday and ride in the rest of the week. Also don't bother with towels, use unscented baby wipes instead.

I found after my body got used to the exercise (after 2-3 weeks) my sweat stopped smelling, too. That's not just me - I checked with co-workers too to make sure I was OK as I have mild anosmia.

Do you really want to lose weight? My RANT.
No particular opinion either way but I have to say this is why I like fatsecret: the people here are willing to have a civil discussion with opposite points of view and generally talk over differences and give interesting links and studies. Please, do continue everyone Smile

has anyone ever struggled with this?
I'm a magnesium proponent too - I had IBS and fixed it by taking a magnesium citrate pill every few days. It has other remarkably beneficial psychological effects, too.

If things get bad enough to really need a laxative, my son has Cerebral Palsy (which has a side effect of constipation due to the nerves in that area not working); he has a daily measure of polyethylene glycol ("Restoralax" is the brand I have) which fixes that problem for him ery effectively. Take it with lots of water though!

how quickly will i lose fitness? ive been sick and havent exercised at all for 1.5wks. when i can go
Taking a break may be a good thing for your body. Professional athletes do it intentionally to boost performance, it's called "tapering" - a Google search should set your mind at rest Smile

At a slightly extreme end, I had Rotavirus for 6 months a couple of years ago. It only took 2-3 weeks to be back up to speed on the bike once I was recovered.

Should I up my RDI on days where I exercise more?
Just to add one more comment to the people who think 3 hours of exercise is "a lot" or "for Lance Armstrong"; bike tourists routinely pedal for 5-10 hours a day for days on end. It takes some training but once a base level of fitness is reached it's no big deal to walk out one day and knock off 100km days - I did it last summer for 7 days and dropped 10lbs of fat.

Try this bike touring game to get an idea of what's involved and the amount of food required. The calories are reasonably close to what I've experienced.
