I'm not on any specific diet (Atkins, South Beach, Weight Watchers, etc.). Instead I'm just monitoring my calories, doing cardio every day (started at 45 minutes a day, working towards 1 hour a day), and lifting weights to minimize muscle loss. Ultimate dietary goal is for calories burned to be greater than calories consumed.

I'm always open to hearing suggestions, so if you see something that you think could be improved regarding my diet/exercise plan, please don't hesitate to leave a comment :).

Diet Confusion
Thank you, everyone, for your responses. I am going to try and increase my calories, but slowly (like I said, I get full easily). Right now I'm aiming for 1400 calories intake per day and I'll see how that goes for a week. Regarding a "spike day," I do technically have a spike day (at least that I consider to be) every other week when I go out to eat with my parents. I guess my "spike day" wasn't enough, though, since I only ate 1600 calories that day.

Regardless, thank you everyone for your tips and advice.

ps* @Sherilyn: I started trying to lose weight 3 weeks ago from Monday. I have been careful to weigh myself at the same time every Monday. The first two weeks, I lost 6 pounds ... The 3rd week I lost only 1 pound.

Too Much On Your Plate ?
I like all of the above posts, and figured I would add one of my own. One of the things that I've found most helpful for avoiding "comfort eating" is to just get rid of the unhealthy foods from my house. Instead, I find a healthy food that I can eat "as much as I want" of, and I keep that handy in the fridge. In my case, I keep celery chopped and ready in the fridge for whenever I feel the urge to snack on something.

Diet Confusion
Hello all,

I promised myself that I would post in the forum for advice if my weigh-in this week did not go well. Previously, I was losing 2-3 pounds a week, eating around 1200 or fewer calories per day, doing 55 minutes of cardio 6 days a week (heart rate in the 115-125 range), and drinking 100 ounces of water per day.

This most recent weigh-in, however, showed that I only lost 1 pound. Based on a deficit of 1000 calories a day, shouldn't I be losing 2 pounds of fat per week? My waist line has stopped slimming, as well.

My confusion comes in when some websites/people/"professionals" are telling me I need to eat more calories each day, but others (i.e., WebMD website) told me to eat 1200 calories per day and exercise on top of that. Should I try to increase the calories I'm eating, even though I'm never really hungry? Or will my weight loss pick back up again? I feel like my dedication isn't being rewarded Sad.

Everything I've been eating as well as all of my exercises are in my journal, if anybody has the time to offer some advice. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
njschmidt

ps* I'm 5'2", ~183 pounds (so Obese by BMI standards), and 28 years old.
