Last Thursday's run I had an unusual incident after the run. I drank a purple drink, when I went to the loo afterwards had a spot of purple pee. At first very disturbing but quickly cleared up so wasn't worried. Well after today's run had the same thing happen. This time worried so on-line to check it out. Well known with ultra runners - dehydration / empty bladder causes the bladder walls to rub together releasing blood into the urine. The remedy is to drink regularly, something I don't always do. Afterwards I drank over 36 oz! of water and it cleared up quickly - a good sign. I'm not going to run this week as I try to get my hydration levels in check. I should have realized when I went down to 183 was not normal. I don't get thirsty and not much of an appetite. I need to be careful with extreme weight loss and exercise. Quite a scare. I've learned a valuable lesson. And if it persists after my race this coming Saturday I will be off to see the doc!

Had a nice quiet Christmas day. I'm super excited found something my youngest daughter likes. I asked her if she would like to try out racquetball and to my surprise she said yes. Everything else I've suggested she has said no. Well two hours later and I'm pooped. I think I spent more time running around than I do on my runs. Had a great time and can't wait to go at it again. She enjoyed it and wants to keep at it. Best Christmas present ever. Tomorrow I'm taking my eldest daughter and her friend on a ten mile group trail run. Something tells me I'm going to be sore after. And if that wasn't enough I'm ramping up my exercise by adding strength training to my routines. I've been reading up on how to improve my running and strength training is highly recommended. I did my first set of reps at the gym on Tuesday. Took about 1 hour. My abs are killing me. Still trying to figure out best nutrition during my long runs. Trying to stay with natural foods and poweraide. Last Saturday used Apricots and almonds but ran out of energy at the end and took an ensure drink from a friend. It worked but not sure that's the answer for me. Will have to keep experimenting.
