Had a great run/adventure yesterday. Ran 20 miles in 5hrs 14 min. Very cold and windchill was severe, we were happy to finally get the wind at our back around 10 miles in. 20 miles is definitely my limit in 16F weather with 30mph wind. Wore double socks but feet started to get really cold at the end. Nutrition worked reasonably well. I drank 32oz of orange powerade, ate 4 peanut butter cookie larabars and one peach-mango baby puree. Stomach was feeling a little off near the end. Will try mixing up the larabars on next run. Quads still very sore but no advils. I spent 1 hr in the shower with hot pressure jet on my quads. This morning no DOMS. Hot water instead of ice/cold baths works for me as I'm not experiencing any cramping. I've organized another long run for next weekend. I'm hoping to up my distance to 30 miles. Right now I can't imagine running 40 miles. My 40 mile race is June 14 - 4 months to get my training in. Also very pleased my weight only fluctuated by 2 lbs. I made sure to hydrate well last night. This morning back at start weight.

Trying to track my food around long runs is really hard so decided going to leave blank. I'm now at the point where I've stabilized around 1500 to 1700 calories per day. I'm now starting to break down the specifics on what I eat which this site doesn't support. Vitamins and minerals specifically. I'm trying to stay away from gels and energy drinks and sports specific products and eat as much natural food as possible. Too much sugar and too expensive! I took 2 Advils yesterday and now after researching NSAID's realize that was a mistake. I need to mentally learn how to handle the pain at the 4 hr mark. My goal now is 100 miles. I plan on entering a 100 mile event next summer. Hard to believe this time last year I was training to run my first marathon and 10 mile runs did me in. The body is an amazing machine and only just discovering it's potential and how to really take care of.

Ended up running 21 miles in 4hrs and 21 min. 4500' of elevation - tough climbs! The run was a special event I organized in honour of #megsmiles, a local women out jogging killed by a drunk driver. 87000 people around the world committed to running miles today in honour of Meg Cross Menzies.

My nutrition plan worked great I took 1750 calories of food with me and consumed 1500. I used baby purees, larabars, almonds, sea salt and 100% cocoa. I used plain water instead of poweraid. I also took 2 advils when I started getting muscles spasms around mile 15. Happy with the results and will fine tune for next long run. I've signed up for a trail marathon next month in North Carolina and a 40 mile trail race in West Virginia in June. Along with regular local trail races i compete in - about 5 races.
