I'm 57 years old and have been married for 32 years. I have three children ranging from 39 to 27 years old. Each child now has a child of their own and we had a fourth grandchild born in Dec of 2013. My wife and I moved from Colorado to the middle of nowhere Texas a few years ago. We are trying to be more self sufficient, so we are raising chickens for our own eggs, and growing some of our own vegetables. I've been up and down the weight ladder for over 25 years. I'm hoping that this time, once I get the excess pounds off, I'll keep them off.

In the Spring of 2013, I was the heaviest weight of my life, and had been to the emergency room and admitted overnight twice in six months, which was a totally new experience for me. I was up to seven different daily medications. I considered bariatric surgery and went to a seminar on bariatric surgery with one of the top doctors in that field. What I took away from that seminar is this: Bariatric surgery works through calorie restriction and exercise. You have expensive, painful, dangerous surgery and live on a structured, healthy Very Low Calorie Diet, you exercise regularly, and take vitamins and supplements. I decided at that point, that if I was going to live that lifestyle, there was no point in having the surgery. So far, so good.


5/29/13 - Re-start at 334 lbs
7/14/13 - Under 300 lbs
8/16/13 - Less than 100 lbs to go
9/13/13 - HALFWAY THERE!
10/22/13 - Down 100 lbs (232.8)
1/3/14 - Under 200 lbs! (199.0)
1/26/14 - Turn the Graph Lines Blue

Full Diet Break
You know Bill, its all kind of a big experiment. We try different things until we find what works. Then we do that until it stops working (or gets boring), then we move on and experiment more to find what works at our new level. Its a true blessing that we have so many thoughtful folks to share with each other to make this easier and more enjoyable. I was just thinking today about what a geographic diversity we share. We have Canada, Denmark, Malta, DC, & Texas represented on a pretty much daily basis, through in all the folks across the United States and you get thoughts and ideas from around the globe.

Full Diet Break
Hey Bill, thanks for the great link. Very interesting article. Actually explained something I found at the Doctor's visit the other day that my Doc apparently didn't know. My low thyroid had been well controlled with my meds. Pre-diet, I had been reduced from 3 grains to 2 grains. Now 7 months into the diet, my thyroid hormones are too low again and she is raising me up to 3 grains again. This article actually explains that the diet causes the low hormones and I may be able to lower my meds again when I'm in maintenance. I am so close to hitting my goal, I do think I'll go off the diet completely until I hit 180 lbs or 15% body fat or 32" waist pants (whichever comes first). Then, I am definitely going to take a month or so to let my body adjust and settle down. Then I can set some new long-term goals for myself after I take some non-diet time to contemplate what's best for me. Thanks again for the awesome article.

Thanks Jenfar. I do feel all of those things...Life feels GREAT! I feel sharper, too. My mind is much more focused, my concentration is great, and I feel like I did 20 years or more ago.
