I'm a 60 year old woman who has problems walking due to multiple ailments. Was painfully skinny my whole life until menopause then I started packing on approximately 3 lbs per year. Nothing too worrisome; or so I thought at the time. More than 10 years later I'm what the doctors call 'mildly' obese and walking has become even more difficult. Since I've never been a big eater I didn't think food was the cause of my obesity. In my mind it was all due to menopause. However, I've since learned it isn't always how much you eat but what you eat. At some point in our lives we all have to change our eating habits and my time has come. I've been on the fad diets and lost plenty of weight, only to gain it back and then some. Now, thanks to FatSecret, I'm eating regular food while watching my RDI and I'm losing weight gradually; about 1 or 2 lbs per week. My doctors tell me that's the secret to maintaining a healthy weight because my body will acclimate to the lower weight easier if lost slowly over time.

Weighing in
I do the same thing. I also weigh myself the same time every day so I feel I'm getting a more acurate weight. I'm one of those people who seem to gain weight easily but losing weight is extremely difficult. I was on Atkins Induction for 4 weeks and barely lost 5 lbs. Then I added Raspberry Ketones and White Bean Extract (saw it on the Doctor Oz show) and I began losing weight. If losing weight is hard for you also I would highly recommend trying the supplements mentioned above.

CHEATING!
I've found some of the diet syrups are pretty good. I had waffles and syrup a few days ago because of such a craving. You know... the cravings that, no matter what you do, won't go away. I used Hungary Jack Sugar-Free syrup and was sure to take my White Bean Extract 20 minutes before eating. Then I took my Raspberry Ketones with my meal and found that I actually lost a pound when I weighed myself the following morning. I'm not encouraging cheating but sometimes you can't help yourself. Try the supplements I mentioned earlier. They really help.

Has Anyone Else Had Trouble Losing Weight Even Though They Are Sticking To Their Diet?
It's definitely menopause for me plus the fact that I'm not as active as I use to be. I understand the "what you eat and how much you exercise" philosopy, however, hormones and genetics are bound to affect the rules of the game.

Plataus and the 1200 Kcal RDI
It's been my experience that you plateau only when losing weight rapidly. Your body is self-sustaining and will do whatever necessary to keep itself alive. When you lose weight too quickly your body shuts down certain functions to preserve energy as it would if you were experiencing starvation.

If you are losing weight gradually by adjusting your eating habits, your body has time to adjust itself and you shouldn't experience the dreaded plateaus.

I remember when I was on the Atkins Diet. I lost 16lbs in the first week but from then on I lost less and less each week and experienced weeks when I didn't lose any weight at all. Some weeks I actually gained a few pounds even though I had not changed my eating ritual and was following the diet to a "T". Through my phyicians I've learned that my body can outsmart me every time if I make drastic changes such as doing the "diet thing". That's why I'm convinced that by eating right, exercising moderately, drinking plenty of water, and losing the weight gradually as suggested by my doctors is the way to go.

Thank God for FatSecret because I don't think I would have realized what my actual calorie intake was without this website. I've never been a heavy eater but like most of us, I never really thought about what I put in my mouth. Since I didn't eat much I FOOLISHLY felt I was watching my weight. It's made me realize which foods are calorie hoggers and which foods are nutrient rich. Thank you FatSecret!!
