Yesterday was a roller-coaster day. I started off the day traveling to NH to the funeral for a lovely 80 year old woman who was killed when she was blinded by the sun and ran her van into and under an empty school bus. Her 11 year old granddaughter was in the car and they were going to ballet class. Her husband of 54 years was in the passenger seat. The 11 year old was only mildly injured, the grandfather suffered a concussion, but poor Desiree (that was her name) was trapped with 2 broken femurs and it took the EMTs 2 hrs to extricate her from the van. She essentially bled out and had a cardiac arrest with her family standing by...

In the evening I went to the celebration of my Brazilian friend's 7 year old daughter and husband, who both had birthdays yesterday. True to form, there were tons of small little hand made desserts. I gave in and had a couple of spoonfuls. I was recognized also for having a recent birthday and my friend made a toast to me and then came over to tell me how much my friendship meant to her. I became very emotional.

When we got home, I was an emotional basket case and got into some Harry and David cookies that came in a birthday gift. I ate 6 of them! I was scared afterwards so took my blood sugar but it was only 115. This morning my fasting BS was 87. My ketones (via my Ketonix meter) had been lower than usual for the last week or so, which has reflected my stall in weight loss. This morning I blew a 71 (which is relatively high) so I don't think I did too much damage. When will I ever learn? Back on track today and determined to get through this slump!
