Goal Weight

I am a stay at home mom to four boys, I have an adult daughter, two dogs, two rats and a huge fish tank.

I didn't begin to gain weight until I got pregnant with my first child at 17. I was too young to know what nutrition was all about. I come from a family that thinks steak and potatoes is a balanced meal. We hardly ever had veggies and never had fruit in the house. Since I was an only child I was never really monitored on my snacks either but I was so active as a child I was always slim anyway.

After My first child I lost most of the weight but it took all six years leading up to the next to take off all of it. I had gained 80 pounds with pregnancy. I was back down to a good weight when I had the next three in three years. I haven't been below 175 since. I look forward to breaking through that weight barrier and fitting back into my "Before" clothing.

Pacing yourself when running?
To run slower I had to download slower music and count each step like this..

One o two one o three and so forth

It has helped alot to slow me down. You can also run on a treadmill and slow yourself down till it becomes habit. Running outside is a little harder for me so I find a good song on my phone and try to match my foot steps with the beat.

why do people say that atkins is unhealty?!?!
Well after reading most of the posts here let me just say...Please read the ENTIRE book before making assumptions that apples are bad on Atkins! Absolutly not.

When you begin Atkins you are not allowed to have Sugar carbs of any kind. The reason behind this is so your body will stop using Glycogen as Fuel and start using fat. You want to burn the fat off and there for, if you still eat the carbs your body will use the carbs. Our bodies are lazy, they use the easiest form of energy- carbs.

As you move forward and your body changes your metabolism to burn fat instead you lose the weight and when you are getting closer to your goal you begin to add back in the carbs slowly. OWL (ongoing weight loss) till you are slowly losing about 1-2 pounds a week. Then you move into Pre-maintenance where you slow down even more by adding more carbs till you find our magic number of carbs you can eat and not gain anything back. For everyone this number is different. The carbs you are told to eat are Fruits, veggies, and whole grains. No different than "Healthy Eating" they just have a different approach to get you there.
