I have always struggled with feeling good about my body in general - If I look at old photos I was slim to normal as a teen but as soon as I moved out the weight piled on (mostly from partying).

My problem is I really enjoy food and it’s a passion of mine. But since I stopped smoking 4 years ago and I cut down on drinking - food is my only vice. When I am tired/stressed/upset/happy I dive straight for the carbs and tell myself I deserve it. I am always going to have a passion for food but I am hoping this site will give me a good indication of what is going down my throat instead of mindlessly shovelling and then wondering how bad it is going to be next time im on the scale!

I am also trying my best to exercise 6 days a week every morning – this is because I am chained to my desk at my job so I really need that extra help!

Eat less, and move more.
AGREED 110%!!!

I will admit - i myself have googled and spent loads of time on net searching on different "quick tricks/tips". i even wondered if it was hormones or a thyroid issue... even went so far as to check those nasty pro-anorexic sites. We want there to be some amazing secret - like some magical pill to lose weight. We dont want to be responsible for how we look. Its hard to admit that its not the food making you fat, its not the exercise thats too hard - its US that make US fat. We decide what goes down our throats and we decide how hard we work at exercise. We control how our bodies look. Denial is lifes most underated skill!

Atkins not working!!!
I tried Atkins with my mom, as well as my step dad and my partner. We all lost weight the first few weeks - was very exciting at first - getting to eat bacon and cheese, it was heaven. But then the weight loss stopped and i started gaining, realised i couldnt eat all the fats i wanted. then i started feeling really restricted with food choices/cooking. would walk around super markets wondering WHAT THE HELL CAN I EAT!! its not just the bread and pasta i missed its that there are carbs in certain veggies and fruit and yoghurt! it gets boring and its not very practical. The reason i ended up giving up on it for good was when my moms cardiologist said she was going to kill herself if she didnt stop with Atkins diet! I think in the long run if you dont eat bad fats you will lose weight. But as soon as you touch a carb the weight goes right back. you loose the first few weeks because its water weight you are losing. Carbs retain water - Atkins himself admitted this in his book. if you ask me - dont cut out any food group, dont follow any diet, just try be balanced in all of the food groups. the calorie counting way is muuuuuuch better because its basic math - what you put in vs what you put out. No sitting there wondering if its going to work. Besides, more variety means you dont feel as deprived and its healthier for your heart! its not about you failing on a diet its the diet failing you.
