help! gaining while on menstral cycle
I agree with not weighing yourself, or not paying attention to your weight during that time of the month. I always feel bloated and weigh more during my period. But I have also heard women can burn up to 500 more calories per day during this time than normal. So if I keep on my exercise routine, stick to my diet, and drink tons of water, I come out the next week with a huge weight loss and also feel 100% better that I did not give into cravings and I feel awesome!

young mother in need of some body toning
Hey Jenn, welcome.

I'm 25 and am kind of in the same boat as far as gaining 10 lbs over the last year except my weight gain came from getting too comfortable with my fiance and eating/drinking too much over the year versus from pregnancy!

I agree with peasncues in that incorporating as much veggies as possible into your diet is the best thing. Vegetables and plant-derived foods are the most natural, nutritious, and lowest calorie, high water density choice you can make. I started my incorporation of veggies slowly and creatively. Ok, so the boyfriend or husband wants sloppy joes... attampt to mix in a bag of frozen mixed veggies while browning the super lean ground beef. Veggies a no go for him or the kids? Then heat up the veggies on the side for yourself and mix yours in spearately. Always keep a bag of salad on hand to make half your plate a salad and the other half whatevere else the family was craving. I am sure you do burn enough calories during the day chasing after your children while still incorporating a little exercise, so just keep snacking to fruits, granola bars, and veggies.

I started a group forum called "Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants." and I plan to update with delicious recipes that keep you energized and full with the main start being fruit, veggies, and beans so you should check it out!

I am by no means perfect with my diet, but those are the ideas I am following in order to try and shed some chub especially before bathing suit season.

As far as whole wheat pasta, I think it is a good choice, especially if you can find the organic sprouted grain pasta. But still, moderation is key you still have to pay attention to serving sizes. I also still make a lot of rice dishes... I use brown rice and mix in beans and veggies.

On Becoming Vegan... Books? Tips?
I am starting a group regarding this. Called "Eat food. Not too Much. Mostly plants." Find it!

Exactly what I want to do is congregate all references, tips, experiences, etc about veganism and/or vegetarianism.
