Pcos??
I have PCOS too - it took 3 years for various doctors to finally figure that out. It started with other side effects first and THEN the weight came all of a sudden. So, at least for me, the PCOS caused the weight gain. Prior to the weight gain I was already missing periods, blood pressure went up, was getting dark pigmentation in various places, started getting a ton of skin tags, hormones were whacked, had ovarian cysts, etc. and the WHAM - within just a couple of months I gained 50+lbs.

I found out that PCOS is most often caused (if not always) due to insulin resistance so for me I have eliminated foods that raise my insulin level too high. No flour, no sugar, no potatoes, no white rice, no pasta, no added sugar in anything.

I have to cook more so I have to plan in the time for that but overall I'm happy w/ my new lifestyle. And the good side is I can still eat whatever I want (within healthy limits) of everything else. I can have meat, seafood, cheese, butter, cream, vegies, whole grain & low carb items, barley, brown and wild rices, fruit, nuts, seeds, etc. So I can still have my yummy salads with feta cheese and sesamee seeds, steak with creamed horse-radish sauce, broccoli w/ cheese sauce, etc. I don't eat those decadent things all the time and I eat a TON of vegies (but I love that) and I don't feel deprived at all. I've stuck to this formula and lost 17lbs so far since August 18th. Counting calories and fat doesn't work for me but this does and I am so happy to see some progress.

I have heard that the more you weigh, the more the IR/PCOS effects you - so you gain more weight and it gets worse, so you gain more weight and it gets worse, and so on. So when I lose the weight I am hoping I will not be as IR as I am now. If that ends up being the case I want to re-introduce a few things into my diet but with a big WARNING sign attached to remind me to keep those things for rare occasions.

I am hoping that when I get my weight back to where it should be I can add back in a few things to my diet (basmatti rice, popcorn on a rare occasion, sourdough bread, etc.) but I know I can eat like I am now 95% of the time for the rest of my life and be totally happy with it!

My doctor now has me on Metformin (hoping the periods get normal again) but I lost most of the weight I've lost so far before I started the meds and the meds have not increased the rate at which I lose weight - probably because of the low carb diet. I'm only a couple of months into this journey but I have learned SO MUCH and I am looking forward to a healthier, and therefore happier, me!!!
