My name is David, I am a 50 year old retired military man. 16 years US Navy and 2 years Army National Guard. I took an early retirement after a devastating back injury. My passions in life are my family, motorcycles and weight training.

I have been into power lifting for a few years. Beginning in 2007 with a year long break following my back injury. I have resumed lifting weights and have basically been on the power lifting See Food diet. I gained more weight than I should have, but did not worry too much about it because I was feeling really good physically. My work capacity has always been quite high. Then in December I got sick and ended up with a bad cough which turned into Pleurisy, then I went to not being able to breath just going up stairs. I went to my doctor and was informed I have a cough variant asthma caused by acid reflux and that I have also become pre-diabetic. Loose some weight he said.

So here I am. I am not on any kind of real diet, but I am very closely counting my carbs each time I eat and through out the day as a whole. It seems that this is easier than counting calories as by watching the carbs, everything else seems to take care of itself. My goal is to drop back down to about 180 lbs without loosing gains I have made in the weight room.

Why do people eat high protein diets?
I eat a high protein low carb diet for two reasons. One is I am into powerlifting and you need higher amounts of protein to build muscle and strength. I began keeping my carbs low becuase I am pre-diabetic and it has become necessary for me to do so. The payof for me with a high protien low carb diet has been increased strength and fat loss.
