Hello! Just by way of quick introduction, I'm a work-from-home mother with a son, born in 2004 (you can figure it out so I don't have to keep updating his age). My husband, son, and I share our home with a variety of animals (two Samoyed dogs, a cockatiel, and two 6-inch-plus goldfish). We live in rural southern Virginia, though we hope to move to New Hampshire as soon as it is financially possible. (The picture I use is an idealized version of myself from an avatar program, as I don't like the way I look in any recent photographs.)

CURRENT GOAL

My current goal is to slim down enough to fit into the seats of "The Griffon" rollercoaster in Busch Gardens (Williamsburg, Virginia) before the end of the regular season (in other words, before October 1).

help!!!!
I have a book called NIA (Non-Impact Aerobics) which has moves which are a blend of ballet, jazz, and karate which is completely no impact. It uses muscle resistance as the central concept of the workout. I don't know if you can find it anywhere (maybe on Amazon?), but it is a very unique idea and sounds something like what you're looking for. (Disclaimer: I haven't actually put it into practice yet...)

EDIT: Here's the Amazon link:

Scale Suggestion
Not really. The best motivating factor for him so far is our 3-year-old son. He knows that at the rate he's going, he won't be able to keep up with him for long... he's really not able to keep up now. And then there's the being around to enjoy his adulthood...

In the end, if your hubby isn't motivated to do it, there's not much you can do. Pushing him to start will probably only make it worse. But, once he takes the first step, you can be encouraging of everything you see that's improving or helpful to you. Not condescending, but "thank you for making better choices, it helps me make better choices" or "I love the way those pants look on you" or something like that would probably be encouraging (IF TRUE), and help make the path easier to stay on for him.

Scale Suggestion
I've thought about the measurements route. I haven't presented it to him yet, because (obviously) it's a bit of a touchy subject. But I wanted to have as many options as possible and make things as easy for him as I could.

Scale Suggestion
Okay, I'm considering possibly buying a new scale. The reason for this is simple. My husband is over 400 pounds (he's guesstimating 425). My scale goes to a max of 350lbs. He's mentioned some slight willingness to start tracking things here, but uses the lack of a scale that will hold him as an excuse.

Of course, we're on an EXTREMELY tight budget. I'd love to find one that goes to 500lbs, but that might be an unreasonable wish. I'd also ideally like to keep my 0.1 pound accuracy (though, of course, shifting weight probably makes the one I have much less accurate than that).

Any suggestions?

Look for "my signature" under "my Toolbox" on the left of your standard fatsecret page. There you'll find a check box to add your ticker to your signature here on fatsecret as well as the code to add it to other pages, should you chose to do that.
