Hello everyone,
Haven't been using the site much lately as things are very busy. Am still losing slowly slowly and am starting a more disciplined approach now as we head into the holidays. Last Christmas I was 185. Today I am 155, have been through a near death experience, and am committed to health more than what I weigh. I am very grateful. Had a regular stress test which I failed, so they did a nuclear stress test. Was very nervous as I get out of breath too fast on the treadmill - but the scans were CLEAR. No blockages. Just out of shape - so a walking/yoga/stretching routine has begun.
Life is precious. Proud of you all for protecting yours by losing weight and getting healthy!

Have switched to the DASH diet completely now, as my cholesterol is high, and was doing DASH (low sodium) and Atkins, but got the book for DASH/losing weight and need to add more fiber. Feel good, still off of BP meds (I think five months now) and I like that the DASH diet is not about what not to eat, but to make sure my body GETS enough of certain foods. More like making sure your car has the right octane gas and weight of oil to run and last. And once you've gotten in what you MUST have - lots of veggies, fiber and moderate protein, you don't really have room for anything else.

Been away from here a while. Have managed to keep to the low sodium part of my diet and low carb but not at a level where I'm losing. Lots of family gatherings don't help! Will get my head back into it this week. Don't want to stop now....am almost 20 lbs lighter than last Xmas and can be 20 lbs lighter by next Xmas if I keep at it.

well, they're right. You can't teach your body to burn ketones if you sneak in a few cookies during the week......sigh. Going to try to stay below 25 carbs a day this week instead of allowing myself 30.

Am so thrilled I dropped 2 pounds this week. I took Irishgirl57's advice and researched the ketogenic diet and made sure my fat intake went up and my protein intake wasn't too high. Reading the book on Kindle "Primal Body, Primal Mind" and although a bit more scientific than I normally read, very fascinating. The research keeps changing and am now viewing some of the things I was eating in a new light: ie, soy isoflavones can increase blood clotting. Having just had a P.E. this caught my attention!
Anyway.....thanks Irishgirl57 and hope everyone has the blue skies and sunshine I'm looking at today!
ps- my good friend Shelley Sims has been diagnosed with stage 4 melanoma. If you can keep her in your prayers, I'd be grateful. If you belong to a church with a prayer circle, please put her name in?
