Start Weight
234.0 lb
Lost so far: 32.4 lb

Current Weight
201.6 lb
Performance: losing 0.5 lb a week

Goal Weight
140.0 lb
Still to go: 61.6 lb
I am 38, I started FS at 228 in July 2010 and currently am at 162 August 2011. I have always battled weight, but I have spent large portions of my 20's working out religiously and eating right for periods of time, then fall right back off. Seemed like I could go to the gym 6 days a week for a year or two, then just stop. I would stay away from the gym for a year or two and then back at it again. This last time around, I have been away from my dedicated workouts and conscious eating patterns for over 5 years. I know how to be successful at losing weight (I have the knowledge of a trainer and I used to want to be a trainer) but its a matter of keeping it off and being consistent and not beating myself up because I "messed up" on a meal and could not maintain being perfect.

Sometimes its challenging to eat less in my current relationship because my boyfriend is constantly eating (of course he doesn't gain any weight) and we really enjoy making foods and eating together. So far he's been yielding to my change, but I don't know how long it will last lol.

Anyhow,

My Mini Goals are:

199 - reward: Wear a dress I have been wanting to get into and buy a new outfit ...hmmm and maybe a spa day - COMPLETED (I am under 200 lbs for the first time in 7 years)

180 - reward: COMPLETED Yoga Classes(Woo! can't wait) : Ok, 1lb away ...so what I started Yoga!!! YAY

160 - reward: New outfit/shoes

140 - reward: Trip to Europe

Ideally I would like to reach 125-130, however, I will be completely happy at 140 ~ 22 LBS to go and when I reach 140 I am going to revise my goal to "130"

Does plateauing always happen?
Keep going ...ive hit them a few times but you just make slight adjustments, even sometimes eating a little more, changing the workout out up a tiny bit.
It will happen, and it is for sure discouraging. Just remember keep going keep going and doing what you're doing. YOU WILL COME OUT the other side. I was stuck for a month at 160 and FINALLY last week I lost 4 lbs! So excited im out of the rut and rolling again.

Remind yourself it will change just dont get impatient and fall off the wagon.

Take care

quote=stacy robbins]Ive been on my weight loss journey since the end of August and have lost 21 lbs. Everything is going great. Ive been reading a lot of journals and have heard about plateaus. I was wondering if this is something that always happens and i need to prepare for it? [/quote]

I love coffee!!!!!
I refuse to give up my daily large Quad Non fat Latte (Peets ahh the best)! I do not see it as negative at all. You get get your protein from the milk and the espresso is minimal in calories. I in particular don't feel that hungry at breakfast so having my coffee with a little something else is perfect. I also don't get that feeling of being denied or that I am missing something by not restricting it from my diet. The only thing I could see is by not drinking it everyday it would be great for my wallet Wink

Plateau? Need some ideas to get rolling again ...
Hi Guys, thanks for the feedback thus far. Let me clarify on a couple questions... ok

I looked at your diet and exercise....You have your diet calendar marked as incomplete....Is that correct, or are you just forgetting to mark it as complete?- Sometimes I forget, but nothing is missing.

If it is complete, your daily calorie deficits are really high, close to 1000 each day....In theory, this is good (deficit should equal loss, right?) but if everything is accurate, you might be eating too little and sending your body into conservation mode. In that case, I agree that increasing your calories might be worth a try. - I may try upping my calories a try. I am eating the required RDI ...I hope not to put on weight trying this lol. I kind of question the validity of the deficits on here, I dunno.

If you are leaving off some of your food, and you think you are getting enough, consider again what you are doing for exercise. If you are keeping your heart rate below even a fat burning zone, then you may not be doing much through your exercise except burning a few readily-accessible calories (rather than fat) and keeping your bones strong. How are you measuring the fat burning zone? Are you taking your heart rate? Do you think it is accurate? Can you double check it? A fat burning heart rate should not be too taxing....If it is, you might mention this to your doctor and maybe the two of you can come up with some ideas for why that might be the case and what to do about it. - I do measure heart rate and I have added incline i had been at a 1.5 and recently upped it to 2, so I know at what percentage I need to be at, I think this is why its confusing that I haven't seemed to have lost more and have hit this roadblock.

You shouldn't have to be a runner in order to get your heart rate up enough to burn fat. Can you add an incline so that you can still be walking but working a little harder? Add a little hill interval to mix it up? It is so easy for our bodies to get used to our workouts. - Maybe I explained it wrong, I know you don't have to be a runner to get you HR up, its just that cardiovascular wise I seem to excel and what was once a challenging speed just feels really slow to me. I guess I just didnt want to keep advancing in to running (I dont care for running no matter how in shape I am)

I definitely appreciate an objective eye and suggestions for improvement. Thanks so much for taking the time Smile

Plateau? Need some ideas to get rolling again ...
Hi, I was hoping some of you could look at my diet and exercise and see what may be going on here. I have lost 18 lbs so far from 228 to currently 210 I have been 210 for the 3rd week in a row now and its so discouraging as I am sure you all know. My goal weight is between 140-125. Basically in a nutshell my exercise has been:

Walking Treadmill @ 3.5 incline 1.5 - 4 days a week 40 minutes
1 time a week I do weights on lower body (i have not logged that in my exercise)

I am eating about 1700 calories a day.

I am afraid to drop my calories further this early in the game because sometimes(not always) I still feel hungry at 1700 calories. I am concerned also with going faster than 3.5 mph because it puts me in the cardio zone and not out of the "fat burning zone" . I am definitely not ready to begin being a "runner". I do not think that going more than 3.5 mph is how to get my heart rate up what I do mean here is that I was concerned that if I would have to keep increasing my speed to continue losing weight.

Any helpful advice would be much appreciated. Smile
