It's post Indulgence Day. This means that I ate like a pig yesterday, and actually had some pretty good food. Wife and I made something close to a traditional x-mas dinner, and it was GOOD!

Of course, I gained 1.4 kgs since yesterday - but that was expected. It always happens after Saturdays, and it'll take a few days to lose it again, but then I should also lose some more. Let's see what happens.

Inspired by many users here, I decided to check out The Biggest Loser. Wow. I lasted about 15-20 minutes, and I am pretty sure I will never watch another minute. Talk about degrading the chubby folks. Honestly, it made me furious to see how they were pushed to the point of giving up, crying etc. What will happen to a guy if he gives up and walks out? He will most likely see himself as a failure, and never get on track, be cause he tried and he couldn't. These people need real help and positive encouragement. Not torment.
I lost all my weight with little to no exercise. I have spent a MAX of 50 hours in gyms/pools though this. I've said it before, and I will say it again: I SUCK AT EXERCISE! I am trying to get back on track on it, mostly because I need to build some muscles on those skinny arms of mine. I am starting to have a serious case of bat wings.
However, tormenting people like this seems not only cruel and degrading, but also dangerous. These people are not ready to push themselves like this. It made both wife and I absolutely furious. So no more Biggest Loser for me. Okay. Rant is over. :)

It's Sunday, my friends. Movies are lined up, sky is gray and threatening with rain, so I think it's best I stay indoors. :)

Life is good!

There are several things about the biggest loser that had me stop watching some seasons ago. I am watching this one again. The only thing I can say about these folks breaking down is that it needs to be done sometimes. In the speed this show creates it happening I dont know if its in the best interest of the person. But if your going to do it I guess do it where I am sure they have professionals standing by. I know when I work out hard I break down, feel lost and alone. Bad memories come to mind. At least they are not alone. I have wondered and even stated in a journal how many of them gained it back. I believe the percentage is high. It is so much in such a short period of time. As much as I hate to see folks voted off. I think maybe its in thier best interest sometimes as long as they take what theyve learned from the show home and use it to actually make realistic life changes. There are a lot of great tips during most shows. The fact you found it disturbings says what genuine caring people your and your wife are.

I watch the British version and have always wondered about the health implications. You take a severly obese person, who hasn't exercised in their entire life and immediately make them run a mile.... I am surprised that they don't injure themselves or have a heart attack or something. You continue by putting them through a majorly intense exercise programme, that even the fittest person would find tough. You then shock them by completely changing their eating habits overnight, so they loose weight at a phenomenally fast rate. Can't be good for their bodies - they must have loose skin by the bucket fall - and I wonder if their actual fat % drops that much - if it doesn't they will put it all on again. On the plus side, I remember watching one series where a very overweight person, who lost bucket loads of weight over the series, ended up becoming a fitness instructor. I would think she will definately keep it off.

As another though.... I find it interesting, that the body can take that sort of punishment and survive. on the downside - it is degrading and I think these people, have hit a rock bottom and feel the show is their only hope... I just pray they get counselling after to help them get on the right track, both mentally and physically

I am the oppersite to your view on the biggest loser. I would love to do something like that. Cause to me there is some one there to push me when I need it to over come boundaries no matter how tough I may find them. The rules or the same for every one and if the contestants did not want to do it in the first place they should of never applied to go on the show! Yes they are pushed to the limit but they can say no they can chose not to do it! They learn nutrition and exercise while it is extreme it is lessons they take out with them in order to help them carry on succeeding.

I think it gives the wrong message to the public. You HAVE to torture yourself to lose weight. Not true! I don't think it motivates anyone to take up exercise. It is a good kickstart but the programme as such is not sustainable at home. I love "before and after" shows but The Biggest Loser is uncomfortable watching. Kingkeld...exercise doesn't necessarily mean huffing and puffing. Walking is very good. As you continue to lose weight, you want to use and push that new body harder. Eventually it becomes a habit.

@Lara - Oh, I know. I don't as such mind exercise. I just suck at getting my butt to the gym to do more. I don't own a car, so I pretty much walk everywhere. I make sure to stand up more than sit down at work, and generally move quite some around. I practice bass playing 90 minutes every day standing up, moving about. It all counts, it's just not very targeted. But as an alternative to sitting on the couch all day, I'm doing pretty good. I am trying to do something more targeted though. And I will. :)

Exactly! Anything is better than sitting on the couch. I HATE the gym, I don't go anymore. I do all my exercise at home. At the moment I have a cold, so I go for walks in the park instead. But usually I use my Wii. Also have a kettlebell. It was cheap and it's good for cardio and muscles. I swing it around whilst watching TV, often just for 3 minutes or so. But it gets my heart pumping and I can feel my muscles the next day. And it is good fun. It's not a mega workout but anything is better than the couch! I wish they would say that on the Biggest Loser.

About the biggest looser, I hate that the shows only show you that they humiliate the contestants, but I do love seeing them when they have broken them down and built them up again and they do stuff they never thought possible. The winner of the very first season gained back all the weight, as he was only in it to win the money, but a lot of the contestants have kept the weight of, admitedly a lot of them have gone into the fitness industry. I would say most end up gaining a bit back but not nearly the amount they had in the first place, so they end up being "normal" body type instead of gymbunny. I dont know, I like the show, but I think that is because I like Jillian Michales...
