Djburney's Journal, 21 January 2013

I guess I thought that I could continue to have wine and lose weight since it worked when I was heavier, but NOPE. Jaime, I think you are exactly right, along with all the other people who tell me that wine interferes with losses. Yep. Ok, so taking the plunge into the social life without wine is going to be interesting, but I think I'm at a crossroads. If I continue to not lose, I am going to get very discouraged and when I get discouraged, the weight comes back on. I so so so much do not want that to happen.

Bye bye wine...see you in a few weeks.

ok, I have another view on this that might work for you. you look to cute in your profile picture with that glass of wine... so, let's say a oz glass 5of wine has 125 calories. it is listed to only have 3 carbs... I count that glass as 25 carbs toward my daily total. 125 / 4 = 25. I don't see how we can only count alcohol as 3 carb! it's alcohol sugar equaling 125 calories. and when I was doing atkins, protein power, no way for me. I still hope you can work it in since it looks like a nice part of your life :-)

I think it is worth seeing if a week of none makes a change. I do have some wine on occassion but I know if I had itblike I used to I would feel very discouraged. It can ge done....hang in there.

That's an interesting thought as I have had wine on a fairly regular basis ever since moving to Montreal (it's much more popular here than where I came from so we got immersed in the "culture") and haven't given it up completely during my weight loss efforts. It would be interesting if that alone was hampering my/our efforts. We'll have to see how it goes without it, I guess :(

You're doing great, a little wine never hurt anyone, I'd rather give up food the wine, but if you must you must. I know the Atkins Bible states that you need to give it up during induction because it slows the weight loss process, doesn't say anything about stopping it or stalling it. Anyway, I'm sure the people in you social life will understand, and if they don't they're not really your friends :)

I agree with Ramjet58, but I am a wino, and you need to do what you feel works best for you. When I look back at your food diary I am completely stumped as to why you are not losing more, your carbs and calories are both low. I also see where you have lost after drinking wine. Pulled out my oringinal Atkins Bible again to see Q&A's and the only thing I could come up with is the wine may be causing blood sugar drops or if you are going over 4oz of cheese daily. Whatever it is I am sure you will figure it out as your history proves.
