Drinking 10 or more bottles of water a day.

Take heart Patty, those are all normal reactions to prednisone, but will gradually disappear after stopping the drug. It makes you want to eat and drink and if you have a lot of inflammatory pain it will make you feel a lot younger with less pain as another side effect. Imagine the poor souls who have to take it daily!

Yes I have experienced all of the above when on prednisone. Horrible hey, but I guess it serves a purpose if one really needs it.

Ty Fran Many will attest I was already nuts! Ty Sally Ty Cully love you all and I'm happy to report the "Cloud" has lifted! I am back to my happy sarcastic self! I don't think given the chance I would take it again. Yes no more hip pain but is it worth the risk! Biggest disappointment the doctor lied! And Murph ty for not saying "POOP" lol Have a great weekend all ❤️

Bone density scan - that's good to have. It was the first thing my doctor ordered for me just as a "baseline" when he took over from my old doctor. Found out my back and spine are doing fine, but my thighs showed some potential problems, but could totally be overcome if I started walking! Which I've done, but not at first. I had to lose about 20 pounds before I could do much walking.

Prednisone has lots of side effects and you can't stop taking it cold turkey or it messes with your body's ability to produce cortisone. That's why the decreasing dose. But you should get back to normal soon after finishing this round. It also jacks up blood sugar.

Fritzy how often do they repeat the scan?
24 Feb 18 by member: 8Patty
Ty Linda I still have some side effects but 95% better, bs is at 76 this am. Thanks for in info!

Oh boy, Patty8-your doc didn’t give you much warning of what was gonna hit you! But everybody has given you GIOD advice here on FS! If you ever go on Prednisone again: your sugar reading will be unnaturally high for 1 it 2 sticks after each dose. It WILL help a lot w pain & inflammation, and also breathing if your have asthma, COPD. Makes me crazy as a fruit fly! LOL, but my doctor remembers that, and asks me if I wants to go on it (You really should taper off or it can get to be a mess. I was put on 50mg a day x 5 days in January by my neurologist, trying to break a week and a half long headache, followed by a couple of migraines. It worked. Bone density gets done every year if you get a diagnosis of osteoporosis or “osteopenia” - I really don’t know what the 2nd one is, but it’s not as serious as the porous. If your bone density is pretty much OK or is stable, they do it every 2 years once you are over 55 or so. My friend gets one every year, but she has RA, and osteoporosis. She had to get a new hip in her ear

Oops, typing when I can’t see! She did NOT get a hip in her “ear”- in her early 50’s or late 40’s, and 2nd hip in her 60’s. Just hang in there, get to your doctor with the symptoms. You won’t really lose weight while on Prednisone, I think. Good luck!

Patty, I just had one bone density scan done about 3 years ago. My doctor hasn't mentioned it again, but then there weren't any significant problems. I'll ask him about it next time I see him.
