DairyKing's Journal, 31 May 2012

Up at 4 and out the door for a 2 mile jog. Cooler this morning at about 55F, and with the wind, felt even cooler. Wasn't bad going out with the wind at my back, but felt like I was climbing a mountain on the way back. Finally got a "valid" run on my Nike+; found out my inconsistent stride, because of all the hills, was keeping me from getting a run that would allow me to calibrate the sensor. So, I only turned it on, when I got to some level terrain, and then ran until the GPS said I'd gone a mile, and triggered the end of the run. Was pretty close between the two. Why am I telling you all this? I have no friggin idea. Just making idle chatter, I guess.

Scrambled up an egg for the doggie this morning; he wouldn't eat that either. All he's had in the last 36 hours is about 5 or 6 little 1"X2" chicken jerky strips that I made for him. Appears that if he thinks it's a snack, he can't help himself; he has to eat it. The glutton in him comes back out. But, I know he is still nauseated; he would have never passed up the food we are sitting in front of him now. Vet says to just give him time. Otherwise, he seems to be doing fine. He's got a hell of a set of jaws though; puts my fingers in a press when I give him his meds!

We are supposed to get rain today, and lots of it. I am hoping so. If it doesn't happen today, it doesn't look like we have much of a chance of getting any for the next few days. Sounds like some of my FS friends are getting more than their share - you guys need to share the wealth. :)

Well, that's it for now. On my 3rd cup of coffee here at work, trying not to think about food, and going to see if I can actually get some work done.

Toodles!

Thank you very much for your note yesterday. I'm going to start doing research on dog snacks.

did you try putting ketchup on the scrambled egg :) that's how my mom made ours when we were little kids. Now that thought is revolting to me!

scrambie eggs with ketchup! lol my family eats it that way. I prefer over-easy with hot sauce (like in the show Dexter) Poor pup-I hope he feels better soon!

Hope your puppy feels better soon, he's a very lucky dog to have someone like you be his owner!

Thanks, guys! He seems to be repulsed by food. When he sees me fixing something in his dish, he avoids me like the plague - very unlike him. I even put some food inside his gums, which always got him to eat before. Doesn't work now. Whatever this stuff is, it knocks the heck out of his appetite. I had viral hepititus about 35 years ago, and I remember how even the thought of food nauseated me; I'm thinking this is somewhat similar for him. It's looking like my only option right now is cooked meat - little or no fat, no veggies, no rice, no eggs - just chicken or lean hamburger with all the fat drained off. I think he'll eat meat.

Your dog is lucky to have you!

Well, I got DW to boil up some chicken and see if he would eat that alone. She had to trick him by eating a little, and making him feel like he was being rewarded for begging at the table. He ended up eating about a 1/3 cup of lean chicken, and if we can get him to eat a little at a time like that, he will probably be OK. I'll get some Turkey hamburger and see how he does with that. If he does well with that, then I'll try to incorporate just a little veggies and rice over time. I may even try some of those low sodium green beans that Jess mentioned. Time will tell.

Aww... Poor little thing.... I suspect you have spoilt him in the past... And are now paying for it... Keep trying, I am sure he will learn eventually :-)

Aww bless your little dogs heart..try wrapping the pill in a small piece of cheese..as to hide it..or a dab of peanut butter...I bet he would love broccoli..mine did..cooked of course..she loved her chicky..]So good luck with that...No onions or spices...:O)

Great idea, but I can't give him cheese or peanut butter; it would kill him because of the fat. Apparently, this pancreatitus causes the pancreas to try to actually digest itself, and fats have something to do with aggravating the condition. I'm having to give him too many pills to get away with that anyway, right now.
