I've come to the realization that I am a food addict. I love food, breads and pastas especially. Yesterday at the grocery store I practically cried in the bakery department, because everything just looked and smelled so good. I didn't put any of it in my cart though! I got out with riced and mashed cauliflower, lots of frozen veggies and some seltzer waters. Last night, my hubs and the kids ordered pizza for dinner, and I had my mashed cauliflower. It was actually really good and filling, although I would be lying if I didn't say the thought to steal a slice of pizza wasn't there. I got them pizzas with meat on them though, in a ploy to keep myself from eating it since I don't eat meat *lol*
How does one get over a food addiction? You need food to live. I guess the real problem is that I actually live to eat, rather than eating to live. Finding other activities to help cope with my stress/feelings has got to be a priority. I can't go back to old habits just because they are comforting.
Well, back to homework, I can only put it off for so long. Meanwhile, more coffee, since its practically a free food besides the unsweetened almondmilk I put it in today.

I’m not sure we can get over food addiction as much as we have to learn to deal with it. Learn ways to eat healthier and not just eating to eat. Avoiding things we know trigger us. Like my husband brought home movie theater popcorn yesterday. I had a good amount. This is why I didn’t go to the movies I didn’t want to give myself a reason to make an excuse and eat a lot of popcorn. It’s difficult because we need food to live and it’s everywhere. Ads, restaurants, videos of recipes. People want to celebrate with food. People want to get together for food and drinks. It’s so hard, but once we can admit we have a problem we have the power to make it better.

Hi Lynn, I am a food addict also. Anything with sugar and white flour are my drug of choice. I was once 306 lbs. I went to a 12 step program and lost alot. Then I started to slip. I have had 7 years of imperfect abstinence from sugar and white flour and still I get cravings. As they say its one day at a time.

I so agree! 🤷🏻‍♀️I have kept the worst of the foods that I am addicted to out of my house. And I don’t buy them. The others, I have made up substitutes for them that I eat that are healthy and that will fill me up. Because otherwise I knew I would never stick to this as a way of life from now on. 🙋🏻

Thank you so very much everyone. Food is definitely an in your face every day thing, and you can't live without it. I'm doing the cauliflower instead of potatos thing fairly successfully thank goodness. Now I just need to find a pasta substitute. If it weren't for the hubby and kids I wouldn't keep any of my NO foods in the house. Also, I've found I feel better if I say "I don't eat that" instead of "I can't eat that" because it makes me feel more in control. Being over 300 pounds is definitely a wake up call for me.

Hi Lynn. Instead of pasta, try spiralized veggies. Zucchini and Squash are delicious. Spaghetti squash instead of spaghetti is pretty good as well.

Lynne have you tried pasta zero low carbs?

I've been doing Common Sense Keto since last year and was just dying for pizza, and had heard less-than-stellar comments about cauliflower pizza crusts. Super happy to recently discover that I can put pizza toppings on my keto 'crepes'! I blend up 2 eggs and 2 tablespoons of cream cheese then pan fry them in a 5" skillet, 2-4 tablespoons of batter per, and for approx 1-2 min on each side. :)

When I crave pizza, I get thin crust with light sauce and light cheese. It ends up being fewer than 180 calories and the carbs aren't too terrible. Of course, I have to plan my macros for the day very carefully before even considering it!

I've tried the spiraled Zucchini but wasn't a big fan. I might try it again though :) Never has seen pasta zero, I'll search the grocery store next time I go. Thank so so much for all the tips!! I'll have to try those keto crepes :)

Pasta zero is in the salad case with the refrigerator dressings at my local WalMart in a two serving package. It’s konjac noodles that I was told I wasn’t rinsing long enough at 30 seconds or so. Try 2 minutes or more. Mine still tasted musty like mushrooms almost with alfredo sauce. Just heat them up under the sauce. They run about $2.30 for the package of spaghetti type noodles. My local Dollar Tree sells a very thin crust that 1/3! Of the crust is like 160 cal and 24 carbs. So 1/6 which is a decent sized piece with olive oil and garlic sauce, cheese and some meat was very satisfying with a salad. (Of course I saved the other piece and was a dumbass and ate it 2 hours later!) LOL It was supposed to be the next day!🤦🏻‍♀️ Next time my will will be stronger! Or I’ll use a different version!💁🏻‍♀️Can’t keep doing this if I can’t control it!

Check ClarityAnn's diary for what she uses, she eats keto pasta fairly often

Often these things are linked to emotional issues. I did diet junk for years... oooh Atkins diet... ooooh South Beach Diet.... that was huge for awhile ... now the newfangled thing is "keto" but it's all the same... and as soon as people get tired of these high protein diets all the weight piles back on. Been overweight for 30 years and watched other overweight people ... and the only people who ever stopped being fat were the ones who didn't diet... they went out and changed their lives forever... many sought surgical and/or psychological help. See a PROFESSIONAL... make a life change. I've lost nearly 200lbs in the last 16 months... it can be done... it's just insanely hard work. Hardest thing I've ever done in my life.

i know exactly what you mean. and i am so ready to going back to eating to live again. i fell off the wagon for a bit and had way to many cheat days and im ready to going back to eatong to live. it is definitely freeing

Thanks Z. I see a therapist for my anxiety issues, which of course is linked to my overeating because I eat when I'm upset instead of handling things. Its going to take a life change, not just a diet change, but its something I need to do. Siamese, it definitely is freeing. No more cheating, time to put up the junk food and get to moving my body more.

I agree with the_z_man it has to be a life change because habits are what got most of us here. 🤷🏻‍♀️ That thought in your head of I’ll just do it this one day...doesn’t really help because then the next day it’s a toss up again too...well, I already slipped...every day needs to be a commitment to your health, every meal. Then if life happens somehow to derail it, it needs to be readjusted so you can recommit to the effort.💁🏻‍♀️ I’m four years and 125 lbs in and fighting emotional and health issues all the way, but I don’t want to be fat any more!🙆🏻‍♀️

Lynne - I used to be like that in the bakery. I got over it by keep telling myself they're nasty fattening things with no goodness in them at all. Then I looked at the line of people picking them up and invariably they were overweight so that reinforced the idea. Now I'm nearly at goal and I do have a treat sometimes but I honestly don't enjoy carbs in the way that I used to and I'm satisfied with just a very small amount. I love fresh food so much more now instead of all the processed junk. You can be the same, you know. It just takes practice.
