I will be heading out and pay a visit to the Robin Hood Springtime Festival. This is the second time I am going to an event like that here in the US. Hope it turns out to be better than the first one I went to. What a disappointment that was. Made me almost homesick.
I wonder what kind of food they are offering , don't have my hopes up since I saw some advertisement for donuts already. Oh well,I am going to find out.
Of course, I am also wondering what kind of atmosphere they are able to create. I think it is kind of a funny mix, call it Robin Hood and then display Renaissance.Robin Hood is a tale but nevertheless happened way before Renaissance. Well, this way it does not make a difference that my garb will be 14th century *lol* Yes, I will dress up for it, can't wait to get into my gown:-)Full gear, besides the knife. Before I let anyone peace-tie it it has to stay at home. Not a weapon but a tool but Americans think different about these things.

Here is a conversation I had with a little girl at a medieval camp way back in Germany:
Girl: Have you ever killed anyone with the knife?
Me: Oh no, this knife is to cut meat, helps me eat. We don't have forks yet and you have to pick up the food sometimes, the fingers might be dirty. I need to cut meat to eat. Besides that it serves for all kind of cutting things. It is a household gadget. BUT - if I will get in real danger I may use it to defend myself.

I was really surprised that a knife is always considered a weapon. I think the big mistake that is made is to always look at the negative side, always try to find a way it can be misused, considered dangerous.
Another encounter in an elementary school, this time in NC. They offered advanced classes and needed a few volunteers for it. So, I went.
One of the ladies, her name was Howard (strange), asked the kids to sit on the floor and put the pencils in front of them. As kids are, some took a little longer to do so, fiddling around with the pencils. And here comes Howard, telling them to put the pencils down because they can be dangerous, a weapon, since you can hurt someones with it. I just stood there gasping. If the kids did not know now they knew. How ridiculous was that?!

If you look at life that way, we are surrounded by weapons, WE are weapons. Maybe we need to peace-tie ourselves, our lives!

Think I got a little philosophical here *lol*

LOL I agree with you, everything shouldn't be percieved as a weapon, regardless of wether it can be or not. Upon hearing that I have a blackbelt in the martial arts, I'm often asked, if I could kill someone with my bare hands, the answer is yes, but that's not, nor was it ever a reason, for me to be involved in it; as I have no desire to hurt anyone. I'm a martial artist because it's a great activity, to maintain an active lifestyle, a great means of self defense, and an effective way to keep me from getting hurt by anyone else, if the need arises. I hope you have a great time at the Robin Hood Festival, with or without the knife present; and I'm sure you'll find some great low carb goodies to munch on, while there; grilled turkey legs are usually popular at those events. :-)

Love it! Hope you have a good time. Unfortunately I doubt there will be historical accuracy. These things are meant to attract tourists - most of whom would not be willing to attend a history lesson - sad, but true.

ShyGuy - I was thinking of you as well when I was writing. And as I said, we all are living weapons. It is just crazy. Nevertheless, we had a blast, so much fun. /// I was pretty close to have some really bad food, ended up eating one mini donut, the size of a donut hole with a hole in it. Did not go for the turkey leg, I just was not up to it. Instead we had pulled pork without the bun, not more than a small appetizer, and the BBQ sauce was not even a tablespoon. The steak on a stick was a little sweet but still, overall not bad. And then I had a cup of mead which went straight to my head *lol*ing

Buffy - we had a very good time. I am so glad my friend came along. Otherwise it is just half the fun. /// you are right about the accuracy and I realized I have to stop to compare things. It was fun, not as it used to be but that is the past and now is now. The fun is what matters and that I had :-)

Like you said - doing things with a friend is always twice the fun - just like losing weight on FS!

What a great journal...of course, you are right! Some of the things that the ADULTS come up with, just astound me! Glad you had a good time, and that you did well with the food. Mead sounds really good! Have a wonderful rest of your weekend!
