OK - it says a lot about why obesity is such a problem in our country, when buying "whole" foods on a tight budget is nearly impossible. I had $100 to spend today, and the majority of it was taken up by milk, meat, cheese, fruits and vegetables...and not very much of any of it!! :(

Diet Calendar Entry for 16 May 2012:
396 kcal Fat: 19.09g | Prot: 6.97g | Carb: 49.83g.   Breakfast: mcdonalds oatmeal, coffee, cream. more...

Yes, it's hard. I try to buy fruits and veggies in season. Frozen veggies on sale are also good. You have to make compromises sometimes.

Yeah, cheeseburger=$1.00, Grilled chicken salad=$7.99. Hmmmmmm, how is this helping America? My grocery bill has almost doubled since going back on Atkins, but my daughter has lost a few pounds while not on my WOE simply by having healthier choices in the house. Keep doing as well as you can.

I know!!!! My food bill has increased since I started eating healthier. If you have a local Farmers Market, try buying your fruits and veggies there. I think this week I may try SOME frozen veggies. I tried the frozen fruit medley...YUCK. I dont want it to go to waste so I'll try in smoothies but stick to fresh fruit for snacking.

While the overall "grocery" bill might be higher than it used to be, I'm not sure one's overall "food" bill is higher on Atkins. If one adds up all the junk food and fast food one used to eat prior to Atkins, it could turn out to be a whole lot higher than where we are now.....it's just that buying fast food, junk food, and concessions all happen a little here and a little there, so we're not so aware of how it's all adding up. Suzi's got great ideas....stock up on sale meats when you can and freeze them. I've also found fresh frozen (not breaded) chicken is a lot cheaper than the fresh/never frozen variety. And don't forget that the fattier fresh cuts of meat and chicken are often cheaper than the leaner ones.....and, on Atkins, fat is your friend!

You are right Sandy. I hadn't thought about that. I've saved so much on stopping our Dairy Queen late night runs alone.
