Looped's Journal, 24 November 2017

Something is very wrong. I ate next to nothing yesterday to consume a very modest thanksgiving meal. No matter how much I stick to these macros I am gaining daily. Has anyone with hypothyroidism experience this and how is it fixed?

I know you usually gain weight with an underactive thyroid. Everyone I know with that issue has to take medication to get it normal and keep it that way. I had just the opposite issue, hyperthyroidism caused by Graves Disease. It happened twice with 7 years of normal in between. So my doctor now checks my thyroid once or twice a year.

A recent review of the Keto Plan in the newspaper reviewed by two RD's and a director for a medical weight management center all agree about who shouldn't try this diet: #1 "People with hypothyroidism since this diet can lower thyroid levels.'

I also have hypothyroidism, I already have more than a month on keto diet, I haven't had problems but I have an appointment with my endocrinologist. I read medical studies that say that we can make this type of diet but minimum every 15 days we must do a day with increase in carbs to keep the thyroid functioning well. I take medication for the thyroid, I have lost weight. And I just hope my doctor gives me good news when I show him my lab results and my physical improvements.

I started gaining weight on day 31 @bevigaby. I've been up 4 days in a row and am at day 35. I went slightly over carbs yesterday and plan to re-feed for one more to see if I can jumpstart the weight loss. If not, hopefully this can be chalked up to fluid retention proceeding a whoosh. Fingers crossed.
