Draglist's Journal, 22 October 2017

Woke at 215.8, down 4.2 in water and bulk from yesterday. Will continue Lasix and coffee/tea flush today. Nearly caught up to my daily 1650 average calorie goal but it may take another day or two. Watched some fascinating videos with Dr. Stasha Gominak (https://youtu.be/74F22bjBmqE). She is basically saying that all maladies can be fixed with proper sleep, but few of us get it. Vitamins D and B Complex help to ensure proper sleep. I weaned off B Complex in July based on a study presented by Jason Fung. Coincidentally (?) that corresponds to my recent weight gain and indeed, I do have issues with sleep. Going to commence taking B Complex again this week. Also, will take my B and D at the evening meal to ensure they work on my sleep. Also going to try exogenous ketones based on some research by Dr. Dominic D'Agostino, who found in his Navy Seal research that simply taking it provided some benefits of true ketosis. I have been averaging less than 30 net carb grams per day without clear indication that I'm hitting ketosis (and that is frankly a high average including a few days where I went much higher). I'm truly doing fewer than 25 per day most days. I'm also going to limit dairy. Will see how these recent changes work for me.

I applaud your focus Bill. I slipped up food wise over the past few days, but reading your journal inspires me to keep calm and push on. Time to do leaves after my 5K. Great job Bill!

Interesting video. I went to a functional medicine doctor and got tested for a number of biomarkers. My vitamin D was okay along with all of my antioxidants which made me realize the impact of eating good wholesome foods. However, my Vit b was a little low. I was cautious about taking supplements ( I always am because of the amount of fraud in the business plus I'm a numbers guy) and many of them have way *too* much Vit B in their dosages. Some are are 10's of times above the RDA. Anyway, I chose a Vit B complex that seemed reasonable. Also, I had high homocysteine and fibrinogen levels which I hope the B's will help. Good Luck in your research and finding helpful information

B6 is the one that worries me the most. Just 6 weeks of too much can cause irreversible nerve damage, and every b-complex has far too much of it. (I don't know the numbers on what is too much; ask Perks!) I've bought some of the individual Bs, but haven't looked up the cautions and benefits yet. Overwhelm. -----Thanks for posting this, DL. I also have no idea whether I'm in ketosis or what that would look like, besides eating twice the calories I used to require while exercising almost not at all. Scaling down dairy is almost harder than cutting sugar, but I've found it very very beneficial, far beyond the lactose-avoidance I'd already been doing. Keep us posted on how this goes for you.

Roasted hazelnut oil is my latest favorite fat. You can't put it on pizza, though! After keto-pizza splurges I'm bloated and sluggish for a few days; let me know if you find a non-cheese alternative for that. I'm not yet ready to sprinkle nutritional yeast on instead and say mmmmmmhhh! So just accepting the occasional consequences. On a road trip, had whipped butter on coffee. That was sumptuous but I haven't yet made it at home. Also liking coconaise.

Wow, what a great discussion - I feel like I'm in the doctor's office of the future!
