Owsley's Journal, 10 February 2012

I am doing well at making sure I drink at least 64 ounces of water which is supposed to be very necessary to lose weight. I am also going to try very hard to stay at 1500 calories which I have not been doing. That will be a new low for me as far as calories go.

This weekend will be a challenge for me as we will be traveling tomorrow and sunday and staying in a small hotel for the night. My husband wants to do the easy fast food thing instead of pack food in a cooler so I am a little freaked out by that. But we should be home Sunday, and I will not go off plan. Except with the car trip and memorial service, I won't be able to drink tins of water or I will be peeing up a storm. Hoping for subway salads and bunless cheeseburgers and decent side salads. Heck I may have to pack a small cooler of celery sticks with cream cheese, hard boiled eggs, Mims. I can do this.

On the plus side, even though I keep going up and down on the weight, and have only lost 7 pounds, (it was down 10 pounds twice, but went back up 3 afterwards), I have lost 2 inches off my waist and one inch off my hips, feel great! And 2 people have noticed it in my face. Seeing stories of people who have faithfully stuck to the Atkins way of eating and have lost 100 pounds and more in a year, gives me lots of hope to stick to it and do it right!

Don't freak out over the traveling. You will do just fine. It might not be possible to stick with the calories but be on the lookout for the carbs. You have the right idea how to handle it with fast food, so go with it. Also good that you plan on taking some snacks along. //Happy for you that you noticed some positive changes. It will work your body is just taking its time :-)

Thanks Jozette! I hope you are feeling better. And don't be afraid of stalls or bumps or trying 25 carbs!

Owsley, That is great that you've gotten both DANDR and NANY. I think The older book written by Dr. Atkins himself is better laid out, easier to read, and more motivational however I think some of the information in the new Atkins book is critical. Most importantly, in my opinion, is the discussion on fats and why to avoid a lot of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) from seed oils. The gist of it is that PUFAs from seed oils contain a high amount of Omega-6 and PUFAs are unstable and breakdown easily when cooked and as they work their way through our body. As hard as it is to accept this day and age but the best advice is to get your fats from saturated fats primarily and from monounsaturated fats secondarily. Our polyunsaturated fats should come from fish and fish oils and flax seed oils. If you want to geek out about this stuff I can give you some fascinating reading and podcasts to listen to.
