Toumina's Journal, 17 February 2017

While not completely awful, this hasn't exactly been a good week for my diet, and I can tell. I feel bloated, sluggish, and like I'm retaining water. This shouldn't be a surprise to me. In the past when I've been eating clean for a while and then eat like crap, I always feel like crap afterward. And the food that sounded so good doesn't taste remotely as good as I think it will.

I think the problem this week is that I've had a lot of unexpected things pop up that threw me off my routine. I know that I have to plan my meals in advance, and that I have to stick to the plan. If I don't, I make bad choices when I'm hungry. So going forward, I think I have to have a backup plan for those days when a friend needs help with something or mom's furnace goes out, and I don't have time to prepare the meal I was going to.

How do you handle those kinds of days? What's your go-to fallback when you don't have your meal with you and are getting hangry?

I wish I knew the answer other than 'today is a new day and I will start over'. I try to have ready made snacks in the car and in the office but that doesn't always work for me. I find it strangely therapeutic though to eat food I do not normally eat every now and then. It kills the cravings. Sometimes I am just dying to try some dessert, and than I take a bite and can't even finish it, or eat it all and don't crave it any more.

This is hard since so much depends on my mood. But sometimes stuff just happens and I start again the next day. None of us are perfect and never will be! Hang in there!

I make an extra serving every once in a while to freeze, so I can grab it and throw it in the microwave. I'm on a lchf woe so I also have snack packs of cheese and salami (Trader Joe's 1 buck each) that I can grab if I don't have enough time to eat or I can eat in the car if I know I'll be in it too long. I know all the low carb options at the local fast food places so I can go there in a pinch. I have a list in my phone for those. If I'm trying a new place I can usually pull up nutrition facts before ordering.

I'd have the same kind of weeks, they sucked. Meal planning is an important if not the biggest factor as far as losing weight goes. Staying consistent with making your own meals for work and stuff is important, but of course easier said than done trust me I know. Luckily I work with a bunch of vegans so they're usually interested in talking about healthy food XD. I also started on a weight loss supplement which also has some energy built in to it to help with the sluggishness that I know all too well.

I went to the store and bought 14 of the same plastic containers. 7 were big bowls and 7 were rectangular. I pick one day of the week when im not as busy (sunday for me) and i line up all the bowls and make salads for every day of the week w/ pre measured salad dressing disposable containers that i put in each bowl on top of salad. I do the same with the rectangle containers only those are dinner. I have to run out of the house often unexpected so this seems too help me not stop and get fast food. I also keep a small ice chest in my car (that i never ever take out) and i stock it with "road food" if i dont have time to grab my lunch or dinner. The things i keep in this ice chest are easy to eat in the car and are sweet and savory so that any craving i get Will be satisfied. Here is a list of things i keep in my car bag: low cal chicken and stars soup-campbles 50 cal

Oops i guess i ran out of room! Here is my road bag list: Campbells low cal chicken and stars soup. Tastes good room temp and its in a cup so you can just peel off the top, replace the lid and drink up! No-sugar added dole fruit cups. These are like 30 cal each and again, peel the top, drink the juice and toss back the fruit. Crunchy granola bars- i usually get oats and not any that have any coating that will melt. I put a big bag of almonds in there and a couple of starkist tuna or chicken salad snack packs. So far that little car bag has saved me a bunch of times in the road!
