Leaving for a family vacation tomorrow morning and will return next Sunday evening. We are cruising on Princess, and neither hubby nor I were impressed by the food on the first Princess cruise we took. They don't have organic, non-GMO options, so the buffet is always a mine field.

That being said, I want to try and focus more on the non-food aspects of the vacation, spending time with family, enjoying the grandkids and their reactions to seeing new things, enjoying the beautiful Alaska air and water. In this way, I hope to keep my diet to mostly veg and fish with little starch.

We'll see. I don't want to be ridiculous about it, but I have had desserts on cruise ships before, and they look so much better than they taste. There are two restaurants on the itinerary. We will be eating at Portage Bay twice in Seattle, and at Hangar on the Wharf in Juneau.

I do plan to eat french toast in Seattle and seafood chowder in Juneau. Will be skipping the fried potatoes and french fries.

My nephew is staying at my house, taking care of the dogs. We are very grateful for this. We purchased special groceries for him to eat while he is there.

You'd think I would be happy and excited, but in truth, I have been feeling depressed for about a week. Maybe the low/no carb is getting to me, or it could be the days getting shorter. I don't know. I have been irritable, snapping at hubby for minor things.

I guess I need a vacation :)

It's always hard to prepare and pack for a vacation: a lot of work to put it all together. Hopefully, you'll be able to breathe out all that stress and breathe in the relaxation, loving family, natural beauty and good seafood. Have a great trip; I hope it will feel renewing. You deserve a break!

Probably the diet , Lo carb always makes me short tempered, you should take advantage of the spa and gym on board and do all the activities that they offer- dancing classes especially .Have a good vacation and dont let guilt over food ruin it

Just want to say -- and this is not bragging but meant as encouragement: Last summer, I spent 7 days on a Viking River Cruise in France. I alerted the concierge to the fact that I had dietary issues. The chef met with me every morning and every lunch and dinner, he adapted food to my requirements. He acquired lactose free cheese and kept a supply of berries and melon that I could eat. In the morning, they made special oatmeal or scrambled eggs with no milk or cream. I managed to travel through France eating no wine, no dairy, no wheat or gluten, and I ate quite well. I was able to focus on the fantastic trip and not feel deprived in the culinary dept. So... maybe think about talking wiht the concierge??? So many people eat restricted diets these days, you might be surpried at what they're willing t do for you.

Have a great time, don't stress over food, stick to your plan as best you can, and enjoy. You're taking my dream cruise, dammit! LOL <3

Oh - have a wonderful trip and relax! You likely need the break. I love Hermiones Mom suggestion about talking to the concierge on the ship so you can have food you desire - it probably costs enough!

An opportunity of a lifetime here. It is as important for you to enjoy/experience all the new things for you as much as to observing the grandkids. Make the most of it and come back to us after the trip. We'll be here to inspire you back on the horse. Remember to have fun.🛳
