I'm really getting discouraged trying to come up with a diet that meets all my various conditions' requirements. The heart healthy diet says to get my fats from things like avocados and nuts, and to watch saturated fats in things like cheeses and get my protein from things like lean meats. Then the kidney diet says to avoid avocados, eggs, meat, etc. I'm told that bananas and orange juice are good for my blood pressure, but the high potassium is not good for the kidneys (not to mention the carbs!), nor is the protein. Sometimes I think I should eat the cardboard packaging and throw away the food!! I've signed up for a class on nutrition for low kidney function and hopefully will get some useful information, but it's not till the end of August. Until then, I'm going to concentrate more on continuing the weight loss, since I know that will be good for my overall health.

Good luck! I feel like you, just eat the cartons, not the food, lol! I only drink water & 4 oz of orange juice daily, but it seems not to really help. Already went to a Nutritionist and she looked at mt Daily list of foods & concluded that maybe I should exercise more. Well, I'm 69 retired teacher & don't feel like anymore walking around because I did that for 25 yrs.

Come over to the low carb side. Feel fuller, lose the cravings, and drop the pounds. Anything that comes in a carton is processed pseudo-food, and it's making you stay fat.

Hi panda , It is LOU just pick what you like to eat within whats good with your medical restrictions , you are 1/2 way to goal and what ever you are doing thus far its working great , do not get discouraged nor stressed you doing a great job and are an inspiration to me .Instead of finding a name of diet , think of what you like to eat within you Doctors guidelines and be happy with it , there are soo many named diets it doesnt matter name , we all have to eat by our medical conditions and do not starve your self please , you very close to goal and think about it , you got there with out exercising , so you doing awesome , I dont do diets I just eat clean foods nothing processed, nothing refined , nothing fried , I stopped dairy and pasta and no sugar unless in natural fruit , and It works , but I got to tell u secret I still miss my macaroni and pizza but I do not eat it but I eat now 4 times volume and my weight goes down slowly , but I took bad and fried and fast foods basically I dont even eat out unless I am starving and then its just like boston market chicken with a salad hold the corn bread and good tasting veggies with stuff on it , but I sacrifice to be in better health like you are doing

I understand what its like for you.My mother is diabetic with kidney failure and hypertension and is overweight. She is on dialysis for the past 3 yrs.Eating right is crucial for your wellbeing. If you have low kidney function you cant have too much protein, nor foods high in potassium.Nor too much dairy foods and even water is restricted.Carbs are also no good for the diabetes.Sometimes she is even told to reduce her greens and salads, when her blood test results are bad.She is miserable and now comfort eats sweets and biscuits. The funny thing is she has been diabetic for over 20 yrs and really controlled her sugar intake. Her kidneys still started failing around 7 yrs ago due to high blood pressure and using painkillers daily for her back, which were bad for kidneys(diclofenac). She really stuck to the food guidelines. However now its like she doesnt care anymore and insists on eating sweets then uses more insulin when BS goes high. She just turned 70.So Pandasmom follow your doctors advice as best as you can.It is wonderful that you are on here trying to lose the weight.

That's, everybody, for your support. I think I mostly just needed to vent a bit. Mskestrela, I am watching the carbs (although I will never get at low as some people on here, because I cannot do the high fats that seems to go with truly low carb numbers), and I seldom eat processed foods -- the comment about eating the cartons was just for contrast. My frustration comes from the various conditions saying "eat low carbs, eat low protein, eat low fat." Doesn't leave much, except the cardboard containers!! (LOL) UmmBilal, I understand your mother's feelings, sometimes I just want to "chuck it all" and go on a chocolate and sugar binge! I don't, but I want to!!
