JoshFS's Journal, 08 July 2016

Hello FatSecret community. Today I did an 18:6 intermittent fast, then broke my fast with a Seafood Caesar Salad, a few tortilla chips with some guacamole and salsa. I don't even think I broke the 1000 calorie mark today. My Caesar Salad felt pretty light. The good news is that I thought there was shrimp and tuna on my plate. Well the tuna turned out to be crab. I was so happy. I been kind of riding the fence these past two weeks and the scale shows it. I am behind schedule for losing 10 pounds a month. I'm going to buckle down more for the month of July, and hope for a 175 pound weigh in by August 1st. Well good luck everyone here of FatSecret as I enjoy reading your posts.

Erikahollister I hadn't eaten crab meat in about a year. And to be able to eat shredded crab meat without working for it was rewarding. Now that I think about it, I sure could of dipped it in butter.

Stukas I posted a link to a weight loss calculator below the food picture. All you have to do is click the link. I've come across weight loss calculators on the internet doing a google search & just so happened to have this one book marked. Stukas it's no secret to what I do. I been intermittent fasting for over 5 months. The logic is to force my body to burn some of my body fat every day and eat a little bit every day. I like to shut down all calorie intake before midnight every night. Then just eat 1 meal between up to 1200 calories a day, between 12:00 to 5:00 pm most of the time. My favorite time to eat is usually about 3:00 PM. And it works out for me because on the hours that I don't eat, my body taps into my fat reserves to take up the slack for my daily calorie needs. And not every day is the same, sometimes I just have more calories for the day, a cheat day, a starchy carby day, restaurant day etc. To answer your question there is 3500 calories to a pound of fat. And you must create at least a 1000 calorie deficit every day to lose two pounds a week. Some of the calorie calculators recommend only losing 1 pound per week. So that would be a 500 calories deficit per day times seven days and you end up with a 3500 calorie deficit at the end of the week to a pound of fat that you no longer have on your body. Well back in January when I started intermittent fasting, I looked up all kind of dieting and weight loss tools to figure what I wanted for myself. I wanted to lose two pounds a week and implemented the plan to go to work. The 1st two weeks were the hardest as my body was used to getting all the calories it wanted every day, until I made the change. Now my body is trained to run off some of my body fat every day and I still get enough nutrition in my diet. I prefer protein as my highest source of fuel most of the time, while others like fat as there primary source of fuel to keep hunger at bay. To be honest I practice it all. But it is the intermittent fasting combined with creating a calorie deficit for days weeks and months that's getting me where I want to be. In the future I want to post a journal loaded with links to tools, to help other people lose weight.

ok so my calories was to consume 1200 a day, so am I to understand I consume them in one meal and fast the rest of the day? Or is a fast 700 calories which is 500 less then that?

Stukas you can train your body to run off of 1 meal a day. For example I like to drink coffee in the morning, because I suppresses my appetite pretty well until I'm ready to eat. Cant handle caffeine? No problem just drink decaf. Or if you like tea. Some people drink bulletproof coffee until there ready to eat. I try to break my fast every day and eat my meal for the day about 3:00 PM. This is called intermittent fasting. There are no rules to intermittent fasting. With intermittent fasting you eat a little bit, then force you body to burn some of it's body fat in a 24 hour period. So if you are starting out new, you can try to go to bed slightly hungry & sleep while your body burns fat until you wake up. Then if you wake up hungry you can make coffee or bulletproof coffee to drink until as least noon. If your not hungry by at least noon, you just keep going until your ready to eat for the day. If you don't want to eat 1200 calories in a single meal just split it into two meals for the day. Yesterday I had a 14.75 ounce can of Salmon at 560 calories and two slices of Gouda cheese at 220 calories for both slices combined. My total calories for the day came out to 780. I broke my fast at 4:00 pm, and I must tell you that was much Salmon to eat in 1 serving. Almost a pound. The Salmon and cheese kept me full until about 10:00 at night. I got hungry after 10:00 and just decided to have a cup of coffee before bed. Remember there is decaf. And the good news is that I stepped on the scale this morning and lost weight. Salmon in limited calories does it for me every time, but it just gets old to eat Salmon in the can after a day. Stukas I posted another link under the Weight Loss Calculator link below the picture, that has fasting and information links on the page. If you don't mind reading, there is good info on the page. Hope this helps.
