Any downward swing is a good thing.
In the past whenever I tried a drastic change in diet, I would rebound by getting these intense, near-uncontrollable cravings for cakes, cookies, chocolates, confectioneries and candies. Is it a coincidence that all the Carb-filled, Calorie-loaded temptations begin with C? 😃
This time around I decided to do things a little differently. I have been gradually reducing my daily carb intake. Yesterday I added 1/4 of a mango and 1/4 of an apple to my green smoothie breakfast. To my amazement it tasted too sweet! What on earth? How can something ever taste too sweet for sugar-loving me? Yayyyyy!
Flax and chia seeds are my new best friends. In addition to putting them in my smoothie, I have found this recipe that serves as a filling substitute for tortilla or bread (I omit the egg). http://www.food.com/recipe/flaxseed-wraps-463437

Great loss! I was once SOOOOO addicted to Mt Dew! I could have went all day without eating as long as I had my Dew...lol. Now, the stuff tastes like the syrup they give you before a blood glucose test. Refined carbs have overstimulated our taste buds so much that we can't taste the sweetness (or much of any flavor without sauces) from whole foods. After removing the stimulant (as with any other stimulant) things start to normalize. This allows taste buds to taste real flavor again. The less stimulant, the more normalization. :)

Caterpillar2Butterfly... Have you tried a few drops of flavored stevia (rootbeer, mandarin orange, fruit punch, coconut, vanilla, etc.) in sparkling carbonated water? Healthy alternative! Also -I have been using liquid or powdered vitamins and wow-zah! It's the bomb! Literally - you must be so careful - the soda water will bubble over. I never need to go back to sodas - because I now have healthy sodas that I love more.

@Lifesatrip... I never crave soda or bubbly any more. I am content with things that I once found undrinkable... water, unsweetened coffee, and unsweetened tea. I do use stevia on occasion, but I do even better without it. Great suggestion! Thanks! :)

Wow! That must have been scary, I.C.M.! Caterpillar2Butterfly, I also have overcome my Coca-Cola addiction, thank heavens! Water is now my beverage of choice, sometimes I infuse with fruit for variety. I started weaning my two children from sodas when I started my new way of eating (they are 6 and 8). Yesterday when I asked the 8 yr old what she wanted to drink, she said 'Just iced water, please'. She has also started to have more salads at every meal. My 6-year-old cookie monster is now content to eat cookies that I bake with flax and oat and chunks of fruit (no added sugar, no refined flour), and often reaches for a fruit snack (I now keep single-serving sized bowls of diced fruit on the shelf of the refrigerator that is just at his eye-level) . I am thankful that they are learning a healthier way of eating. Hopefully they will be spared the lifelong battle with the bulge that I have been going through.

Very scary event there, I.C.M.! I am so with you, delede! My kids were also the same way about soda and other sugar. While the still get an occasional treat, they are content with healthier options too! It feels great to no that I can pass down something to my children that will help them stay well long after I'm gone. :)
