debrafrederick's Journal, 24 June 2016

I am going to rehash another tired old subject - appropriate content for a journal. I pointed out to another member the other day (I don't mention names in my posts because this is not a personal attack) that this is a journal. I have defined journals before and I will do it again. This is MY record, MY diary of MY journey in weight loss. There are literally THOUSANDS of non-diet related triggers in my day....that do affect my diet. My journal is about me and the things that cause me stress, happiness, anger, confusion, MY journal is not concerned about OFFENDING or NOT OFFENDING others. I am not going to censor myself in my diary on the chance that something I say is going to cause someone else, somewhere else, of a different background, different age, different religion, different diet, different political mindset, different sex..ect.ect.ect. ad infinitum,,, Chances are- whatever I post about anything CAN POSSIBLY offend someone out there. So, since you can't please everyone...you got to please yourself. My journal is about me, my day, my life, my journey. If you are so thin skinned that it offends you, I am sorry....don't read it. I assume that most of us are adults here and know how to use the scroll feature, scroll on by... I am going to continue to post things that are non-diet related because I am an emotional eater and things that affect my emotions effect my diet and the catharsis of pouring everything into my keyboard is equal to cleansing it from my soul.

Way to go Deb....nicely put. I enjoy reading the posts that you put on here and like you said if people are that thin-skinned, they just need to go past your posts. I am like you with what i post here. I consider you guys part of my family now and i share a lot of my life with yall. I know where my boundaries are on what to share and not share. You keep right on speaking what you feel. I applaud you.

Debraaaa!!!! First let me say that physical appearance is one of the last things I pay attention to, even on a site like this, but I was just looking at your profile pic closely for the first time. I LOVE your curves!!!! Read your profile just now. You are doing an amazzzzzing job! Congrats!!!!

Your journal for you to go back later and read over and see where you went right and went wrong. If people don't like it....they can skip over it.

God bless you for your honesty in your journals. I've never been offended by anything you've written. The fact that you share openly with honesty of your struggles and strengths ought not be offensive to anyone else. It's your journey and journal. I am honored to read and I find strength after reading. Be yourself. You only have to please yourself and by being you, your presence is a blessing to many.

I'm a HUGE fan of a man called Stephen Fry - if I lived in the UK, I would stalk him, gay though he might be. I'd just follow him around until the police made me stop. ANYWAY, he and Christopher Hitchens were having a discussion about the words "respect" and "offended", and I link to it here. I think of it SO often :-) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O-IX69mjpcA

Thank you for posting a timely reminder, Debra! These journals may be public and open to comment, but what each of us post is OURS and while others are free to like, dislike, comment, or ignore they don't get to dictate WHAT we put here!! On a side note, I agree with Jenny, your curves are curvalicious, and I'm not the kind to notice or comment on anyone's personal appearance, particularly those of the opposite sex because my wife would not approve, but I make an exception because you have exceptional curves!! :D Anyway, having went off on that tangent, again, Thank You for all of your contributions, I always enjoy reading what's going on in your life, and wow, you've had fantastic results with your weight loss efforts!!

@Samiam I went and listened to your link, short and sweet chat. It was good and my thoughts exactly. @Debra On the big screen now. You're beautiful and curvalicious. Besides, your mind is lovely and your heart is pure too. We need more people like you in this world, for you bring people up. So do a lot of the others here on FS.

100% agree. It's your journal and if you are happy for others to comment on it, that's fine, whatever you're writing about. I can't believe that some people moan about what others have written in their journal! Nobody is forcing them to read anything on here! Puzzling indeed. I enjoy reading your journals :)

I support you, Debra. People need to stop hijacking other people's journals. I support my buddies 100%. Others ... not so much.

Exactly and 'nuff said.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the support. I don't believe in censorship for anyone, but I also believe that if you don't have something nice to say to others then it is best to keep your mouth shut, or fingers as it were. I read most of the posts and comments on here, some I respond to. Some I simply support because I have no experience or words of wisdom to offer. Some I neither read nor support because the subject matter does not interest me. But I would NEVER, no matter how angry or upset I might be go into someone's journal and tell them that they are wrong for posting something just because I don't want to see it. Last time I checked I still live in the US and even though this is an Australian owned site, this site is for the US and I don't think the 1st Amendment has yet been repealed. Freedom of speech. Freedom of expression.

Debra, your honest journaling gives me a sense of who you are. You seem authentic and likable. That's what makes FS so great, we really do get to know each other. I'm glad you journal, and I feel lucky to be able to read your thoughts. Keep it up. - it's more than just words, it's your personality and life shining through. Love it!

I'm with Erika! I know how important a good purge of emotion here is to keep us from binge eating the fridge. Love your honesty.

Me three. You are compelling because of your multidimensional approach to your recovery. Your journal compelled me to research Dr. Fung, and it changed my life, and my daughter's life.

Some people don't get that, Debbie. I guess they spend too much time on Facebook or in other people's business or trying to make others think the way they want them to - SMH - shallow people with little minds. Keep on keeping on, in the end, they are but ships that pass in the night.

Lady, Bd, Erika, thank you and I hope I have provided some entertainment and encouragement. I guess my whole point behind this is not so much my journal, but everyone's journals should not be censored, you can't police your emotions and water things down to where they will be inoffensive to everyone, you can't ONLY talk about your diet....this is an expression of our lives, for it to work we have to be able to freely express ourselves in an environment free of judgement and persecution. To share with honesty and without fear.
