I am under 90 kgs again. Let's keep it that way, huh? :)

So, I got the GOOD news at my doctor's visit yesterday. Well, almost good, because there is a little frustrated sigh behind it on my part. There's nothing I can do about it, rules are rules, so I will just do it and move on.

Anyways, my doc originally told me that to qualify for surgery to have my loose belly flap removed, I'd have to reach a BMI of 25 (77 kgs) to qualify, and then stay there for one year. I don't see this as too much of a challenge, I am absolutely certain that I can do that. I can reach 77 in a few months, I think. So I have been counting on maybe 15-16 months until I can do the surgery.

Then, thinking about the BMI got me a little frustrated. If we are ONLY looking at BMI, then it suddenly changes the health game a little. It's ONLY a matter of not weighing a lot. That means that I essentially can't get to do body building and start putting on muscles until I am done with the surgery. Muscles weigh, and I would easily gain weight and thus make my mission much harder. No good.

I talked to my doc about this, and he said he'd cut me a little slack and approve the start of the "trial period" once I could show him that my waist is smaller than my hips, which is a good sign that I'm virtually there. Well, I qualify for that and I went to see him, asking him to get very specific info from the hospital about what THEY require of me to approve of the surgery.

Very frustratingly, they REQUIRE a BMI under 25. So that means I am off body building exercises again, and right back to cardio. I just gotta focus on losing weight, and essentially NOT put on muscle. I hate that, but that is okay. I can wait.

The good news is that now the clock has been started and I only have to WAIT SIX MONTHS, not a year. That's pretty neat. So essentially, if I can reach 77 kgs by March 19th, 2012, I will qualify for surgery. I should EASILY be able to do that.

First step is to set a new goal. My initial thought was to put my goal all the way to 77 kgs, but I am just not sure I wanna do that. Call it blue ticker vanity. I did lower it to 85 kgs, to push me a little towards getting the blue ticker back. Then, when I reach 85, I'll lower it a bit again, and so on. I hate how that little thing sometimes runs my life. :)

Getting the news yesterday put me somewhat at peace, and made me all happy!

Anyways, have a great day everyone. You know I love you all! :)

Life is good!

its not that long to wait I know its frustrating and you just want to get on with it but think your not losing any muscle while your re-coving from surgery cause you cant work out. and surly your bmi should be set a little higher considering that flap of skin will weight a bit!!! Good luck and I'll be counting down to march with you x

Wow. That's wild. I understand weight training to be one of the best ways to lose bodyfat, so I thought that would work toward, and not against, your mission to get leaner.

@Helewis - trouble is that the doctors don't look at the bodyfat percentage. They look at height and weight. So if you REALLY beef up and get super muscular, you'd be over 25 BMI and not qualify. Yes - that sucks. Oh, well. Rules are rules. I'll do what they ask and make damn sure I qualify in 1st attempt. :)

How frustrating Kingkeld.... Sounds like the doctors are in the dark ages by just measuring BMI. I think a lot of people realise, what a crap measurement this is, to gauge success. Great news on the below 90kg again - at least you have a new goal, with a time frame, to work towards.... I don't blame you for not whacking down you target to 77 straigh away - motivation is important in the journey :-)

I'm so happy for you, that you only have to wait the six months, and get to this goal, WHICH YOU CAN DO!!! But Wow!, this is frustrating! Some hospital or insurance policy maker arbitrarily came up w/ this BMI rule - probably 15 or 20 years ago - and no one changes things! There's surely enough info out there now to make a case for the benefits of your being healthy, strong, stable in your weightloss and with a lower body fat % prior to surgery - than just going by BMI. I really hate this for you - for anyone - when your health is being dictated by someone else because of money. In the end, that's what it all comes down to. And they probably thought years ago when they made this policy it was to help you...so people wouldn't have wild weight swings w/ this type of surgery and undo the 'results' of this type of surgery. But what would be so wrong in expecting your Dr. - and other Dr.'s - to go to bat these days for their patients... and explain to these 'policy makers' the difference between BMI and Body Fat %'s. They want you to be healthy, right? Wow. - In the mean time... GO FOR IT! Sounds like you've got the best plan for you going...considering the rules you have to play with!!! Much Love!!!

Great news on getting the surgery sooner. I'm sorry that you have to go through all the bureaucratic red tape though, that really sucks, but at least you can get there sooner and then focus on muscle building :)
