warrenwinter's Journal, 25 May 2016

A Happy Wednesday to all! I may be gone for a bit in the near future, as my wife's brother is given a few months to live. Sorry to be a political animal, at the same time. Why is healthcare too expensive for most? Well, first there is the profit motive, and then there is spending 100's of thousands to give people at end of life, a few more months to live. I also thought it interesting, that driving by Planned Parenthood, it's all MEN picketing to take WOMEN's rights away. Huh! Gotta love them! You hear victims of Colorado shooting, suing Planned Parenthood? Who started all this crap? Have a wonderful day!

Thanks Steven, I'd love to see them. Jay, I agree, the whole system is very complicated and needs a lot of work. I have an attorney friend, who is pushing for my rights on my plan. You have to advocate for yourself or be subject to the system. I recently switched to my wife's plan, and the doctor said,"Teachers don't put in to SS?" "Well, welcome to European healthcare."

I am sorry for the victims of the shooting one was the wife of one of our soldiers. But you cant say it was planned parenthood's fault. Perhaps they should have had security, but just like the theater lawsuit saying they should have had security when James Holmes shot all of the people. You never know where or when something is going to happen. So if you go to the grocery store and someone shoots up the store do you sue them and say they should have had security?

I went from a super plan to an HMO, when I turned 65, ironically, just when I needed it MOST!

Rockie, I donate money to control of gun legislation groups. 35,000 lives a year is too much to lose each year, to have the other side say there is NOTHING that can be done. My wife called me yesterday, to tell me they were on lockdown with a gunman outside their doors. The standoff took a long time, and not much of anything was reported in the news. This has become just standard life here in the city. Rural people could care less about city problems.

Isn't interesting, that 88 lives on average a day are lost to gun deaths, but a terrorist attack, that kills 12 people, is something to carpet bomb a civilization for. Where are the priorities?

We forget that "Shock and Awe" was a media circus to watch us drop incinerating bombs on mostly innocent people, and then we wonder why Isis hates us? Sunni's watched their leader hung on national TV. Why can we ever put ourselves in someone else's shoes?

So sorry to hear about your wife's brother. We slate our National Health System in the UK but it's there for all and while not perfect, it's good in general. I'll not get going on most of the other things you've mentioned as it's frustrating for me and my blood pressure is high enough. I will agree about Hawaiian waters though - so clear and beautiful my fear of heights kicked in on a couple of dives whereas in UK waters, 15m viz was pretty exceptional. Take care, m'Dear

Thanks Phooka, I appreciate it. I get on my soapbox too often for many, but I like others to know there are other thoughts, than Fox News! There are states in the US, that have only Fox News, period.

Only Faux News....what a terrifying thought. My thoughts are with you and your wife, enjoy your time with her brother while he's here. In my experience, some of the best conversations in life are had when there is, truly, nothing left to gain by maintaining facades.

I think the thing that is missing from the "pro gun control" proponents is just how legislation is going to control the illegal procurement of guns. For example, I own a gun legally, with all the appropriate background check and paperwork, and then someone breaks into my home and steals it. Then, they use it to shoot someone, or many someones. What legislation is going to stop that? If there was a way to ensure that, I'd be all for it -- and yes, I do "have a dog in this fight," my husband was a police officer who was shot and disabled by a convicted felon who should not have been able to purchase a firearm.

Sorry Warren about your brother in law, makes my smAll issues seem so minor when you are facing these life changing challenges, I hope things are smooth for everybody, my prayers are with you buddy!

Gun Control is an exercise in futility because guns are so proliferated in the United States, that cat's out of the bag.

Not often we have the luxury of saying goodbye to someone whose time has come - and so often it has come much too soon. That's a journey of its own - I hope it be healing for you and your wife and solace to your BIL.

Thanks everyone. I agree Phil, but the situation only gets worse. We do need more laws, and I don't believe AK's and military weapons should be sold to the public. There are laws to improve the situation. You realize in one state it is not illegal for a baby to have a gun, that one just passed. No age limit. These kinds of laws are ridiculous. The Right loves to stick it in your face!

Smarty, I know words are hurtful, whether your a man or a woman. There are words from my wife, that have stuck in my craw, just like those or worse. Sometimes they don't go away. Thanks for your thoughts. You are a good lady.

Also, gun deaths don't really bother anyone, really, until it is someone in your family or loved one.

Warren I understand where you are coming from really it is not the guns that kill people it is stupid people with guns. Personally I carry a firearm, and am pro gun but that is me. After spending 20 years in the Army you never know when you are going to need it. do I flaunt it that I have a sidearm no. I am one of those old Army guys that any situation can be handle with the proper amount of quick effective violence. As for the Shock and Awe I was there and yes we needed to be there, no weapons of mass destruction yeah right another media story.

I agree with you, Warren, the whole issue isn't IF, it's HOW, and unfortunately there's not a good answer, it's a Pandora s Box.

Warren, so sorry to hear your BIL's condition. Prayers of comfort to you and your lady. I can't take the craziness of the news....everyone is angry; domestic violence; road rage; people killing people for a phone!!!!! It's all a bit too much. And don't get me started on the price of healthcare. Ahhh, the good ole days of the 60's when ... oh, never mind, we had our fair share of turmoil, but many of us don't recall it through the purple haze..... :) Safe travel and do check in, you are a beam of positivity that I'm praying wears off on me!
