Stay strong!! I've been there, and it certainly isn't easy. For me, I think it was about as hard as quitting cigarettes! The longer you say away from it, the easier it gets though!

If you don't purchase it anymore, you can't drink it anymore:-) (worked for me when I wanted to quit potato chips...). Come on, you can do it!

Try going cold turkey for a week. Drink 1 tbs of cider vinegar in 12 ounces of water instead. Your gut will thank you! And I thank you for your support.

all my life I drank regular coke. as I got older I could only drink 1/2 a coke 3x a week. could never finish a whole one. so I decided to switch to Diet Coke...I became addicted. I remember going through 1 whole 12 pack in a week!! I knew something was wrong which scared me, so I quit and craved it for a week after but never touched another Diet Drink again. I have not had a SODA at all since March 5th. :o)

Try aversion therapy - read all the health warnings about sodas (especially diet) and sugary beverages to help you remember how bad it truly is for your brain and body & budget. It ought to be banned, but our society is too addicted. I used to think it was no big deal either, til I started paying attention to health experts - they warn "don't drink your calories!" Have you seen how much sugar is in one soda can? It is alarming! And we feed this to our kids regularly. Yikes! Excessive consumption of sugar is probably one of the culprits for causing cancer and a host of other ailments too. I have found an awesome healthy sugar free substitute that works for me. Any plain soda water, Perrier or club soda combined with flavored stevia. They make liquid stevia in a variety of favors: root beer, tangerine, coconut, mint, chocolate, vanilla, etc. Stevia is made from the stevia plant. Zero sugar, but sweet! Just a few drops will do. I also toss in sliced fruit, mint & ice to infuse my sodas with extra fragrance and beauty in a glass. I get lots of compliments when I do this. Another great thing I discovered is zip powder vitamin fizz - (sold at Costco). Be careful when you add it to water it turns into soda, but when you add it to soda water, it will bubble over, so do it gradually with plenty of room for the powder to dissolve. It tastes just like soda pop! Also at Costco is the liquid Kiwi Strawberry Collagen supplement. It's delicious too! If you like these substitutes, I think you will also never care to return to unhealthy sodas again. I carry the zip fizz vitamins and collagen with me too. So when I go out to eat, I just ask for ice water or soda water - usually $aves me $$$ too!

I found out that if you unwrap a bar of chocolate and smell it instead of eating it the effect is the same- i wonder if that will work with diet coke?

Congrats on your achievements thus far. I also had a diet soda issue and one day realized it was the carbonation I was wanting so I changed to sparkling water with some Davinci or Monin sugar free syrup in it. That finally did the trick. I'm not saying I never have a d. soda, I do, maybe 1 a month. You can do it!

After getting down to 132 - - - - now I'm back up to 135!!! I'll have to work more on it again. Good job Ferretlover - keep up the good work. Kay629 - I'm wondering if smelling the sour cream potato chips would work like the chocolate?
