Just what I was thinking, not the pasta, it's just the bread! Going to cut down today also.

So a question to my low carb friends. Should I look at total carbs or net carbs?

Look to all the things you can/will have...don't focus on things you shouldn't have :)

How many carbs are you shooting for?

Right now, I look at total carbs on my food tracker here. It hits anywhere between 140-200 total carbs a day. I was thinking about trying to hit 70-100 total carbs, cut it in half. But I could use some advice.

Habits trump Goals my friend. Cut the breads, pasta, rice, carbonation and sugar.

I thought I would have the same problem brother. I'm Italian. I had half a loaf of Italian Bread dipped in olive Oil almost 4 days a week. I was a BAD carb addict. Then I went LCHF and life has becomes SO MUCH MORE SIMPLE!!!! Omg its easy. And I not only don't crave bread anymore. I cant STAND it. I don't even like smelling it anymore. Talk about a 180. My dad brought home Red Twizzlers. My favorite candy of all time to tempt me. I almost got sick just smelling them. I was amazed. How had I convinced myself for all these years that I wanted poison in my body? Ugh

I would count total carbs if you are only going down to 70-100 grams a day.

Hey JD, my hubby simply quit eating bread and potatoes a month ago, he's down 15 pounds and two pants sizes. He still does sandwiches but he uses corn tortillas instead. I am thinking he has wheat issues and when he stopped eating bread, his "beer belly" (no beer for 15 years) went away, he's actually feeling much better now and HE LOVED HIS BREAD! He said it's a shame it does not love him.

Hi JD - Here is a diagram on carb input you may find helpful. This is a great website in general.

I think your 70 - 100 carbs is much more in line with weight loss goals. I personally try to stick with 25 total, but I am a type II diabetic and I think my insulin receptors are fried. I am very sensitive to carbs. There is some slop in our measurements that's why I go with total, not net. I don't want to worry if I'm out to eat, for example, and I'm estimating it. Good luck!

JD, I understand you! I am a breadaholic...ironically I'm much better staying away from things because apparently I do not comprehend moderation. Best!

It will get easier. It's really just not good for you like empty calories. I do a whole grain but don't even like to do that. I can have four carbs a day like half an English muffin is one and two corn tortillas 1 just for example. Now pizza crust is another story! Thankfully I eat thin crust and squares and I normally will eat the edge of the crust and just the cheese if I have more than two squares ;-) like I said it'll get easier u r doing it for a reason. Good luck! U r doing great.
