The Japanese Zombie's Journal, 16 April 2016

Yesterday was my sister's birthday, so I allowed myself a cheat meal.

I think I learned a lot since Easter about how to do less damage. Last time I allowed myself a cheat DAY. My cheat day unfortunately left me 5lbs heavier the next day (which I knew wasn't fat, it was glycogen levels) and almost threw me completely out of Ketosis.

This time around I didn't eat much until we went out for dinner. I kept my cheat within reason this time. I ordered a mushroom burger without the buns. Had a handful of fries. I ate 5 pieces of calamari, 2 tortilla chips with spinach dip, 1 thai chicken bite and of course... a quarter slice of cheese cake. Over all, I cheated, but did I do much damage this time? No.

This time the results are going up 0.4lbs, I checked this morning and I am still in full Ketosis. I didn't feel too sluggish (although I do feel a bit bogged down) it's right back to business this morning. I started it out with a coffee then had my 35 minute medium intensity workout. I'll be eating salads and leaner meats today and I plan to take my sausage dog to a big field today to play fetch :-)

I think this experiment was a success, how I can cheat without doing great damage. What worked for me was eat less during the day, have your one cheat meal WITHIN REASON. This helped me feel satisfied without going overboard and then of course the next day is business as usual. Work out and try and burn some of the extra intake and of course, hydrate to flush out all you can.

All in all? I'd say a success, but only the next couple days will tell me if I actually gained anything or not. Will keep everyone updated!
163.6 lb Lost so far: 1.4 lb.    Still to go: 23.6 lb.    Diet followed reasonably well.
gaining 0.7 lb a week

There you go. That's the way. A cheat 'meal', not a cheat day like so many do. You're doing awesome... you know, for a zombie.

You are exactly right. No matter what diet you follow, a cheat meal followed by back-to-business is real life. The reality is, people who have healthy relationships with food do this as a matter of course. They eat moderately nearly all the time, and then they have a big holiday or birthday meal. It's not cheating for them -- it's just the way life is. I hope that once I get to my goal, I can do this and not have a problem. Good job for you!

I think you are getting this. I believe some have it much easier than others. It's a matter of finding the foods, and the caloric intake, that takes off the pounds, but it's about nutritious diet too. Once you find the happy diet, you can give and take to find a happy medium. Good luck, we want to see those before and afters, that make you happy.

Hermiones Mom, thats the type of relationship I want to have with food too. I'm getting there, because there are no cravings for me (only fleeting wants from wafts of good food) I tend to stay on track. I caved the next day and had 3 small pieces of sushi, but I'm back on track and made sure I was extremely active the next day. Warrenwinter, I'm hoping to learn from my experiences, the only way to do that is to experiment. The bright side is that I'm learning how to enjoy myself whilst doing less damage! And of course! I'm getting ready to post another comparison shot today. :) doland, thank you!

Hey Zombie, not to get off the subject, but check out the videos I posted on my latest journal, they mesmerize me. Not sure if u are a rocker. The Lenny Kravitz after the Heart is just amazing. You are correct about just finding the right foods, amounts, and times to eat, that work well with you. I feel real happy, that I came on this site, and really think about what I am eating for the first time, really. You know, I have never eaten much sushi, but would like to try it. My neighbor said he got worms from some bad fish, and that soured me for sure, but I love fish. Good luck there!

Honestly, it scares me. For now I don't think I will ever have control over my carb addiction. Hermiones Mom has shared words of wisdom as well as good example. I pray that I will reach that level of self confidence. Zombie, thanks for taking the risks and sharing the results, both favorable and unfavorable.

Warrenwinter, That was awesome :) I love music sharing, we do it a lot in the office I work at. I love to share Queen with the girls who don't really listen to any kind of classic rock! Bahaha! Not enough girls in my age group like them! You should definitely try it. The best way to tell if a fish is fresh? It wont smell like fish. I guess you always take your chances when you eat fish. It is absolutely delicious though. I'm a big sucker for asian food of all kinds. :) The flavours are just too good! Sarah1950, Not a problem! I think you will get there, hang in there and do your best. It's taken me 3 months to be comfortable enough to eat a little bit of carbs and not beat myself up over it. Just remember, any jump up on the scale is temporary. Just make sure you go back to business after your cheat meal and be active. My weight actually jumped over the past three days after my cheat meal 1.4 lbs, but I am already seeing the weight go down. It does get better.
