warrenwinter's Journal, 14 April 2016

I understand this is not a site for political views. I joke on here, most likely, way too much, but I do take my politics very seriously. I am so proud of the Rockers, that are canceling concerts in North Carolina, because of their LBGT discrimination law. You may think you are going to heaven discriminating against others, but my ONLY surviving family member is GAY, and I am PROUD of him, he deserves the same rights, as any other American. If he wants to marry another man, good for him, and he should have the same rights as any other married person.

I will never forget, what I consider my greatest day in teaching, was when I attended the HS Graduation of one of black, foster kids, who needed a semester of credits to graduate, and I was her teacher for her studies in Independent Study. One day, she came to class, sobbing like a baby. I mean buckets of tears, like I had never seen. Foster Services were going to take her from the two women, who were her Foster parents, as she didn't meet certain guidelines setup for her education. She pleaded to me to help her. She was tired of moving from home to home, and loved her GAY parents. I called Social Services, and over an hour of talking to them, resolved the education issue, as I told them, she was progressing adequately toward her graduation. She earned her credits, and I met with her GAY parents to tell them the good news, that she was going to be able to keep her parents, and we all attended her graduation, and had a nice party afterwards to celebrate. I most memorable accomplishment of my career.

My apologies Fred, but as a teacher, I like to inform others, I was raised in a very conservative, Republican, Christian family. I believe from my experiences, and my heart. I guess I am very much like Ronald Reagan Jr., who was very liberal, but raised in a conservative family, but let's face facts, Ronald Reagan is a liberal compared to the Republican Party candidates today.

Sorry, but listen to Ted Cruz. Doesn't believe in the Supreme Court, doesn't believe in IRS, doesn't believe in NSA or government, so I guess he doesn't like democracy or America, it's very simple.

Normally I'd agree this isn't the place for politics. To me though this issue isn't about politics - it's about basic human rights. That young man is deserving of the same rights as anyone else - so were the foster parents of your students - and millions of other LGBT individuals. I'm also really pleased to see musicians, companies and individuals refuse to do business with a state that legalized discrimination. The truly sad part to me is that if they reverse the law, it won't be because they knew they were wrong but because they've realized how much $$ it is costing the state.
